Chapter 57: Loss of friendship

Mizuki comprehends my words without changing her expression at all. Whether she is not shaken as expected or if there is another reason, I do not know.
“…Maya told me the same thing. Not to meddle with you two anymore. That nothing you said was true.”
“…I see.”
Could it be that the reason Mizuki was late to the park was because she had been talking with Maya? Whether it was through a call or a message, I can’t be sure.
Even so, I didn’t expect to find an agreement with Maya in a place like this.
It's likely that their relationship had been strained since that argument Maya and Mizuki had at the house we used to live in.
Now, it's not hard to imagine their relationship deteriorating further in this current situation. On the bright side, at least I won’t have to deal with Mizuki’s hypocritical meddling anymore.
“So, does that mean you’ll honor our request to stop interfering?”
Despite knowing better, I couldn’t resist confirming. Mizuki nodded weakly.
“Rest assured. I won’t interfere in your relationship ever again.”
“…”
“In hindsight, everything I did, even when I tried to help, only made things worse for you, Maya, and Naoki. My attempts to help might have gone beyond self-satisfaction into pure arrogance.”
It’s rare to see Mizuki, usually so full of confidence, looking this defeated. She seemed even more distressed than during our conversation at the café earlier — in fact, saying she was unwell might be more accurate.
A tense atmosphere filled the park.
“Maybe it would have been better if I hadn’t been around at all.”
“…No, it's not that…”
I felt compelled to offer some comfort to the self-deprecating Mizuki, but she ignored my words and turned away, leaving.
“…Goodbye. I’m sorry, Ono-kun.”
Without looking back, Mizuki muttered softly. I had no words to offer her. I just stood there silently until she disappeared from sight.
There was a certain gravity emanating from the current Mizuki.
But I had no way of knowing the true nature of that gravity, nor could I understand Mizuki’s mind, which had shifted from calling me “Kazunari-kun” to “Ono-kun,” creating a certain distance between us.
──Was her argument with Maya so severe that she was this depressed? Such a serious falling out.
I dismissed it as merely that, thinking of everything I could.
Even though I should have understood the suffering of a cornered person, I failed to notice the gravity of Mizuki’s desperation, even if only a little.
This memory would haunt me in the days to come.
Mizuki threw herself from a building rooftop the following night.

It would have save people alot of trouble if she'd done that, years ago.
People in the comment section berating mizuki because she tried to kill herself out of guilt are exactly the kind of people the mc is talking about of what he become, someone who didn't thought of what a cornered person feels like and kicking them when their down.
Ohh... She died.. Lmao, what a toxic person
shouldnt it be "That nothing I said was true" ?
Hahahaahah what a weak b1tch
Mizuki meant well, but she was in over her head many a time. She essentially ruined 3 people by meddling and she couldn't handle the fallout & the accountability so she killed herself.
People like that are too common IRL in this day and age. They play God in other people's lives & when it backfires, they can't handle the heat & choose to escape, even if it means suicide. I don't feel sorry for them. They're cowards & will be held accountable even when they die, just like Mizuki.
Bro what lmao is she that allergic to accountability wth
