Chapter 88: The Troublesome NTR Work Next Door
Just like when Saeba-san rang the doorbell and entered my apartment.
“Good evening! It’s the police!”
Naturally, there was no response. Maybe they were in the middle of something. Saeba-san put on a serious face and asked his partner.
“The lights are on.”
“I could be pretending to be out.”
“Is this an emergency situation? What do you think, Makimura?”
“Yeah, it could be serious. We should do something before it’s too late.”
I thought the situation wasn't that urgent, but I kept quiet. Saeba-san and Makimura-san began searching the area.
“Makimura, are there any security cameras around?”
“This area looks clear. Probably because it’s a cheap apartment.”
“The lights in the neighborhood suggest not many people live here.”
“This room seems vacant. Convenient. Okay, let’s do this.”
Their conversation sounded pretty sketchy. Are they really cops?
Ignoring the questionable legality, I focused on how to help Kojima-san.
“Got it open.”
“Good job, Makimura. Let’s go in.”
“Why did you unlock the neighboring room and change into plain clothes?!”
“Quiet down. Entering from the balcony is the easiest way.”
“Why not just open this door?”
“Ever heard of a chain lock? Perpetrators usually latch those.”
“And we didn’t bring any bolt cutters today.”
“Are you guys planning to switch sides with the criminals soon?”
I understood why they changed clothes. These two are undercover, no doubt. Unexpectedly, I’m now part of a covert operation.
If things go south, I can always pin the blame on these two.
“There’s a limit to what we can do.”
“That’s rich coming from you!”
Saeba-san seemed to have read my mind. His sixth sense, or whatever it is, is uncanny.
I decided to follow quietly. We crept to the neighboring balcony and listened.
“The curtain is drawn.”
“Good. Easier to approach.”
With practiced movements, the two jumped to the next balcony. It must look like a burglary to outsiders. I followed suit nervously.
Standing on the balcony, we listened in. There was a heated argument inside. Thin walls make it easy to eavesdrop.
“Stop it! The police were just here…”
“They were fake. No way the police would come suddenly like that. Just a prank.”
Wrong! We’re the real deal.
“Why are you so happy, Aki? Singing while you walk around like everything’s fine!”
“…”
“You think you can just live alone? Think you can clean up your act? Never! You’ll stay filthy, inside and out!”
“That’s not what I…”
“Listen, Aki! You’ll never be clean again. Just follow my orders, you dirty b***h!”
The guy was getting angrier. Maybe he’s right about Aki staying dirty, given her complicated family situation.
But it doesn’t give him the right to destroy whatever little happiness she has.
My body moved on its own, ready to punch the glass, but Saeba-san stopped me.
“Calm down, Uemura. Breaking the glass will hurt you and make noise. Use this.”
He handed me a screwdriver from his trench coat.
What’s he planning to do?

Hm...
Screwdriver? What kind of trickery that would be used then...
