Chapter 13: Pre-visit planning.
Translated and Edited by: luccayn.
Enjoy!
We immediately began discussions with the Count of Camell for the ‘visitation'. The date was then set for the morning of the day she was to be transported. After my ‘visit', she would not return to the residence she was in priorly and instead be relocated to the place she would spend the rest of her days. However, they would also use that same carriage to bring her to me, so she wouldn't hesitate to board it on her way ‘back'.
Even if she realizes it and goes wild, there will be strong escorts—more so captors than escorts—to keep her from doing anything rash. She will also be provided with snacks laced with sleeping pills.
The meeting would not take place at the Camell's villa where she was kept, but rather at the Marquise's villa where Rein and I had shared those drinks high into the night. This was something I had asked them to arrange for me, knowing from Rein that the villa would eventually be given as a wedding gift for both him and his fiancé. He seemed to understand my intentions and gave me permission without a second thought.
After all, there was a reason for me to choose that place for my meeting with her: the villa had a special room where the voices of those inside could be heard by those outside. I wanted to use it along with its adjoining room for the meeting.
Although I had accepted, I had no intention from the beginning to do so alone. I planned to bring two males and one female squire, who could all be used as visual deterrents. The men would intimidate her by standing near me, and the woman would be able to touch Lulu without any issues if it ever came to that point.
Not only that, but we would also need witnesses in case there were any problems regarding our conversation. Despite her now being a commoner, her personality wouldn't just switch from one day to the next. Thus, I wanted to be sure, because I had no idea why she had called me there or what for.
Lulu, my squires, and I would be in the room without any soundproofing, and Camell's squire would be in the next room to serve as a witness. I felt bad for not only renting the villa but also for involving Rein himself. However, as the groom's side seemed to have a bit of free time, I also asked them to join.
…Well, he would've gladly stood as a witness even if I hadn't asked him to do so.
After making those decisions, I asked the Count of Camell why she had wanted to see me, but he just said she wanted to and didn't disclose any important information.
In any case, if she had apologized for what she did to me, I think her parents would've been much more accommodating to her as a last act of mercy, but… even now, she looked down upon her own parents and Lyla. I had only heard about her bad behavior from what she did at her parents' house, so it's possible she was actually worse.
This is speculation on my part, but it may be that both Lulu and her parents were no longer families emotionally since before her expulsion from the nobility.
And something else that was important. I had to know in advance where the former count and countess, Lulu's overly-doting grandparents, were during all of this. If there would be any interruptions during our meeting, they would definitely come from them. Well, the villa where we would meet each other was still the private property of the marquis, so if they came in, they would be caught and arrested as trespassers.
According to the Count of Camell, he had already moved her from his second house in King's Landing to another somewhere in his territory before she would be transported here. It was relieving information, to say the least.
No matter how much I tried to make her happy, I was seen as some sort of leech by her two grandparents. I was loathed by them on the pretense I was not worthy of being Lulu's fiancé. They also harassed me in various ways, so even now, I still have a hard time when it comes to them.
Originally, they were supposed to be transferred after Lulu's transfer. However, the former count and countess wanted to participate in their grandchild's wedding. The reason for the delay, then, was that the bride, Lyla, firmly refused to let them.
It also seems that Lulu will live in a place completely different from theirs, and arrangements have been made so that the two former counts and their granddaughter won't ever be able to see each other again. I'm sure not being able to see their oh-so-beloved Lulu will be the most painful punishment of all.
After the meeting with the current counts, I came home and told my parents that I was going to see her one last time. My mother cheered me on, telling me to give her one last farewell with a smile, while my father taught me not to be fooled by her, since there are women who are famously good at lying and crying to get their way.
—This night, I had the same old dream as before.
Lulu wanted to look me in the eyes at that party, and we were both children. However, in that dream, I simply told her no and walked away.
The dream ended with me never looking back.
It starts next chapter!
