Chapter 11: Count of Camell.
Translated and Edited by: luccayn.
Enjoy!
It had been about three months since my drinking night with Rein. Since then, my parents have been busy with finding a new fiancé for me. I have already met two women while working, and I am actively searching for a new partner. So far, however, I haven't managed to get a match, but I hope to find someone within a year. I hope.
Well, I'm not in a hurry, but I want to give my parents peace of mind as soon as possible. More important than anything related to my love life, I have a wedding to attend in about a month, at the Great Temple in the capital. Although the pair always said they were more friends than lovers, their distance shrank a bit day after day. Perhaps the impending wedding day made them more aware of each other.
At this rate, they might have a child soon… If the newlyweds hang out with me with their future baby, I would definitely feel forlorn as the only single person in the trio.
Yeah, seems I'm more lonely than I thought.
In spite of that, I am happy to attend the wedding of my two dearest friends, and even though I'm not related to the Camell house after the broken engagement fiasco, I was invited as a close friend of both the bride and groom, so there were no problems on that front. Well, since I had unwillingly caused a stir in the social circles, I'm likely to have to deal with the eyes of other nobles there, but it's their wedding, so I have to be strong.
Ah, and I've already prepared their gifts. I hope they'll like them.
As I spent my days like that, I received a letter from Lyla. She said she needed to talk with me urgently and asked for some of my time. Needless to say, I accepted, wondering if something was wrong with my best friend's wife-to-be, as it was possibly the busiest time in her life.
Later, when I went to the place she requested me to go—a nobleman's residence in the royal capital—I was surprised to find not only her and her fiancé there but also the Count and Countess of Camell. After brief pleasantries, I was asked to sit down on the parlor couch they showed me. Lyla sat with the count and the countess in front of me, while Rein was beside me.
“This is the mansion of the viscount's family where my wife's younger brother was married into. Now that the whole family is back on their main territory, I was able to borrow this place just for today, as a favor. There's a lot of people coming in and out of the house due to the coming ceremony, so I'm not comfortable with it,” the count said, perhaps sensing I was nervous about being in such a place for the first time.
“My brother's family will be back in time for my daughter's wedding, and I will introduce them to you there. My brother has been dying to meet you, after all,” the countess added, smiling gently at me as is trying to soothe my nerves.
Every time I see the countess, I think that Lyla was the spitting image of her mother. If one were to put both women side by side, it would be believable to say they might've been sisters instead. The count also had blonde hair, but green eyes as a differential. His face was also rather childish—or boyish—, so countess Lulu might've taken after him… I guess that might've been why her grandparents were so sickeningly doting on her.
“Thank you for your concern, and I look forward to meeting them. So, what exactly is it that you want to talk about with me?”
I didn't want to take up more time than needed with them, seeing as they had a whole wedding to plan out. Thus, I already hit the nail on the head wanting to get it over quickly.
“Yeah, there's something I need to talk about with you… In actuality, Lulu's transfer was decided to happen next week. She, after learning so from a squire who inadvertently leaked the info to her, started saying she wouldn't move until she saw you. After that, she began making a fuss, wailing that if she couldn't talk with you, she would die.”
“What?”
I couldn't hide my sheer bewilderment at Count Camell's tired tone.
