Chapter 6: First Spider Incident
Translator: Soafp
“Well then, I'm heading out!”
“Have a good day~!”
“Be careful out there!”
“Yeah, yeah~”
I left the house as usual, on my way to school.
Today was a bit different, though — my dad, who's normally already at work by now, had the day off, so being sent off by him too felt kind of refreshing.
After walking a short distance from home, I stopped and took out my phone.
“…This thing's seriously real, huh?”
Of course, I was talking about the NetoraSensor.
I've said this over and over again, but after what happened not only with Aizawa but also with Tojo Rira, there's no room left for doubt — I have to believe it's real.
It doesn't just tell me where something's happening; it even gives me that strange power. That only makes it more convincing.
“But… in the past few days, I've only come across two actual incidents. I mean, having that many NTR cases happening is depressing in itself, isn't it?”
How many times have I said that now… haa.
They say the more you sigh, the more happiness escapes you, but in my case, it's like I'm constantly staring into the darkness of this world, so I guess it can't be helped.
“…Ah.”
When I was almost at school—just a short distance away—I saw two girls walking ahead of me, and it felt like déjà vu.
Their glossy black and blonde hair swayed as they walked, and even from behind, their beauty was unmistakable — they were Aizawa and Nakazato.
“Ah~ people are definitely staring at them.”
The street was packed with students, and the two of them, who already stood out on their own, naturally drew everyone's attention.
Aizawa and Nakazato are openly close friends, so on days when Aizawa doesn't come to school with Tokunaga, she's often with Nakazato like this.
“Aizawa and Nakazato are seriously beautiful, huh?”
“Yeah, I don't get how Nakazato's only ranked the second most beautiful girl in our year.”
“Right? I think that too. They're both so gorgeous, they should just tie for first place.”
I couldn't help but nod vigorously at the guys talking nearby.
Of course, the scent of the two girls walking ahead didn't drift toward me, and there wasn't any rom-com kind of moment where they'd look back at me for some reason. I just went straight to the classroom as usual.
“Morning, Masato.”
“Yo~”
“Good morning, Kamiki!”
“Mornin'.”
As I raised my hand to greet my classmates, my eyes met Aizawa's — perfectly.
(…There it is again.)
Lately, I've really been locking eyes with Aizawa a lot.
At first, I found it kind of embarrassing, but honestly, having a beautiful girl look my way isn't unpleasant at all — if anything, it gives me motivation to get through the day.
“…Ah.”
And this time, I also met eyes with Nakazato.
The other day, both of them laughed at me for something, but I think this is the first time we've actually made eye contact like this.
Nakazato looked my way because Aizawa did… but something about her still caught my attention.
(Doesn't Nakazato look way too much like Tojo Rira…?)
Aside from their hair and eye color, they look almost identical.
“Nakazato looks kind of like Tojo Rira… but their eyes and hair are different, so maybe I'm imagining it.”
Nakazato has blonde hair and sapphire-blue eyes, while Tojo Rira has black hair with blue highlights and ruby-red eyes.
Even one of my idol-otaku friends mentioned they seemed similar once, but it was never explained, and no one really cared after that. I don't know why it still bothers me — maybe because I was close enough to Tojo Rira to actually carry her in a princess lift once.
“Morning.”
Just as I was staring at the two of them, the handsome Tokunaga showed up.
He's always ridiculously good-looking — the type who practically sparkles. He went straight over to Aizawa, and the three of them started talking.
“…Well, whatever. No point overthinking it.”
As long as the NetoraSensor isn't reacting, I'm just an ordinary guy.
For now, I'm just another background character watching the untouchable beauties from afar like everyone else.
“Thank you very much, Sensei.”
“Not a problem at all. Come see me anytime if you need help.”
“Okay!”
I bowed to my math teacher and left the staff room.
What I'd been doing during lunch break was asking about a part of today's math lesson I couldn't follow — I'd been too distracted thinking about the NetoraSensor during class.
“…Man, this isn't good.”
It's one thing to be curious, but it's bad if I'm so distracted it affects my studies. I've got to get myself together!
“Haha, the students at this school are all so full of energy!”
“Abusaka-sensei, what kind of school were you at before?”
“Yeah, tell us more!”
Near the staff room, a young male teacher was chatting cheerfully with a group of girls.
Come to think of it, the morning assembly mentioned something about a new student teacher joining us today — mainly for P.E.
“So that's him, huh.”
He looked really muscular, with a clean-shaven head and a refreshingly confident face.
He gave off that “popular with girls” vibe — cheerful, athletic, and approachable. Since student teachers aren't that much older than us, they usually get along easily with students. Watching them laugh together like that should've been heartwarming… but I couldn't help feeling uneasy.
(Maybe it's because I've read too many doujinshi, but guys like him always seem like they'd make a move on girls. …Not that I'd ever say that out loud — that'd make me a total creep. But thinking it doesn't hurt anyone, right?)
Just as I was thinking that and about to enter the classroom—
“Kyaaaah!?”
“W-What was that!?”
A scream rang out — and not just anyone's. That was Aizawa's voice!?
The normally noisy classroom and hallway fell completely silent. Something had definitely happened.
I rushed inside, and right there in front of me was Aizawa.
“Eh—”
I didn't have time to dodge as she suddenly stumbled into me, so I just caught her. The impact hit hard enough to make me wince — and then came the soft, bouncy sensation against my chest.
“Kamiki-kun…!?”
“What happened?”
“A s-spider!”
A spider…?
She pointed toward her desk — and there it was, a long-legged spider perched proudly on the floor nearby.
Its intimidating presence could definitely make a girl scream. …Actually, if I found that in my room at night, I'd probably freak out too.
“A broom! Let's smash it with a broom!”
“Here, hurry up and kill it!”
The guys tried chasing it down, but the spider was way too fast.
“Hey, how long are you gonna hold onto Runa?”
“!?!”
A sharp hit on my shoulder — Tokunaga punched me, not too lightly either.
“S-Sorry…”
“Hey! You didn't have to hit him that hard!”
Well, I mean, he wasn't wrong.
It was technically just an accident, but I did get a little too much out of it — that softness left quite an impression. So yeah, getting whacked on the shoulder was a fair trade-off.
“It went that way!”
“Why is there even a spider in here!?”
“Spiders can be anywhere, man!”
“Yeah, but still!!”
Ah, great. Now the whole classroom was in chaos.
The spider darted away from the guys waving brooms and ran straight toward me.
I set my textbook down on the floor, and the spider climbed right onto it.
“Good, good. I'll just take you outside, alright?”
Everyone froze, watching me closely, now that I was actually handling it.
I walked over to the window, opened it, and gently shook the spider outside, silently hoping it would never come back in again.
The spider, of course, didn't show even the slightest sign of gratitude as it disappeared from sight.
“Did you get rid of it?”
“Yeah—!?”
A sudden voice beside me made me jump.
Peering out the window next to me was Nakazato, her eyes following the direction the spider had vanished.
“Nakazato-san…”
“……………”
“What's wrong?”
Her deep blue eyes met mine — clear and shining, like a gem.
“…Hey, could you let me hear your voice closely sometime?”
“What's that supposed to mean?”
That was what Nakazato said to me, right after the commotion in the classroom.
