Chapter 19: Visit

[Hana PoV]
I sat in the classroom, surrounded by the usual hustle and bustle of students and the hum of the teacher’s voice. But despite the familiar surroundings, I couldn’t seem to focus on anything being said in class. My mind was consumed by thoughts of Ryota lying in the hospital in critical condition.
Every passing minute felt like an eternity as I anxiously awaited news of his well-being. The weight of worry bore down on me, making it impossible to concentrate on anything else.
I glanced at the clock, willing the hands to move faster, desperate for the school day to end so I could rush to Ryota’s side. But time seemed to drag on endlessly, each moment stretching out into an eternity of uncertainty.
As the minutes ticked by, my heart raced with a mixture of fear and anticipation. All I could do was wait, hoping and praying for positive news about Ryota’s condition.
But can I really visit Ryota after what I have done? I didn’t listen to his story, I didn’t know what happened to him, and I was one of the reasons why he… jumped off a building.
[Isn’t it the perfect time?]
You again…
[He’s in critical danger. When he opens his eyes, he’ll need all the help he can get. You can atone for your sins by being there for him.]
But what if he doesn’t want me near him?
[Ridiculous. He was so in love with you. He needs you. Didn’t you remeber what Kenji said to you? You were the reason why he jumped off. Because he was lost without you]
That-that makes sense. Could it be that Ryota’s actions were driven by his love for me? Had my absence truly driven him to such despair?
But one thing is clear, Ryota really needs me more than ever.
I felt a strong surge inside of me, really wanting to take care of Ryota. I can’t let anyone do that.
[Yes, yes. Be always next to him. Take care of him like a doll. His fondness will increase more and more. He can’t leave your side by the time he is fully healed.]
Just hearing those words that Ryota will always be by my side… It feels so exhilarating. What is this feeling? But just imagining this… It’s like a dream come true.
As I sat in class, my mind was consumed with thoughts of Ryota. The mere idea of being there for him, of tending to his every need, filled me with a sense of purpose unlike anything I had ever felt before. It was intoxicating, almost addicting.
With each passing moment, my desire to rush to his side grew stronger. I longed to see him, to hold his hand, to whisper words of comfort into his ear. And I knew that once I was there, once I had him in my arms, everything would be perfect.
But for now, I had to wait. I had to endure the agonizing minutes and hours until the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. Only then could I rush to Ryota’s side and fulfill my destiny as his devoted caretaker.
After school ended, I wasted no time in rushing out of the building, my mind solely focused on reaching the hospital to visit Ryota.
Each passing moment felt like an eternity as I navigated the familiar streets, my anticipation growing with every step.
As I neared the hospital, my heart began to race with a mixture of anxiety and determination. I knew that seeing Ryota would be an emotional experience, but I was prepared to face whatever awaited me.
Entering the hospital lobby, I made a beeline for the reception desk, my eagerness palpable. With a sense of urgency, I approached the receptionist and inquired about Ryota’s room.
“Hello.”
“Hello, what can I do for you?”
“I would like to visit someone.”
“What is the patient’s name?”
“Ryota Ken. I am his….girlfriend…”
The words feeling foreign on my tongue as I struggled to maintain the facade.
“Hmm…May I know your name?”
“It’s Hana Kobayashi.”
The receptionist typed my name into the computer, her fingers moving swiftly over the keys. After a moment, her brow furrowed in confusion.
“I’m sorry, but it seems you’re not on the approved visitor list.”
“What? That can’t be…”
That means I won’t be able to see Ryota…
“I’m sorry, but those are the hospital’s rules.”
The receptionist explained, her tone sympathetic but firm.
Tears welled up in my eyes as a sense of helplessness washed over me.
“But I have to see him”
“I understand how you feel, there is nothing I can do about it. I can’t grant you access.”
Frustrated and disheartened, I realized my efforts were in vain. With a heavy sigh, I turned away from the reception desk and trudged out of the hospital lobby, my footsteps echoing hollowly in the empty corridor.
[Receptionist PoV]
So, she was one of them that the young man mentioned. I remember when he arrived with the patient. He was sitting in the waiting area, his posture tense and his expression etched with worry.
As I watched him, a wave of empathy washed over me.
It was clear that he was under immense stress, his shoulders hunched and his hands clenched tightly together. The weight of the situation seemed to bear down on him, leaving him visibly drained and exhausted.
There was a profound sadness in his eyes, a reflection of the turmoil he must be feeling inside. It was heart-wrenching to witness the anguish etched on his face, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the pain that comes with it.
Despite his efforts to remain composed, there was an unmistakable sense of vulnerability about him. It was as if he were teetering on the edge of a precipice, grappling with emotions too overwhelming to contain.
As he sat there, lost in his thoughts, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of compassion for him. It was clear that he cared deeply for the patient, his friend, and the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on his shoulders.
I continued to observe him from a distance, his presence lingering in the waiting area like a somber shadow. Despite the bustling activity around him, he seemed lost in his own world, grappling with emotions too complex to articulate.
Every now and then, he would glance up at the clock on the wall, his brow furrowed in concern. Time seemed to move agonizingly slow, each passing minute stretching into eternity as he waited for news of his friend’s condition.
There was a palpable sense of tension in the air, an unspoken fear that hung heavy over the room like a dark cloud. It was as if everyone present held their breath, waiting for the inevitable moment when reality would come crashing down upon them.
In the midst of it all, he remained a silent sentinel, his presence a testament to his unwavering loyalty and devotion. Despite the uncertainty of the situation, he refused to waver, his determination to stand by his friend unwavering.
As the hours ticked by, I couldn’t help but admire his resilience in the face of adversity. In a world fraught with chaos and despair, he stood as a beacon of hope and strength, his unwavering faith a source of inspiration to those around him.
The doctor finally emerged from the room where the patient lay. Though I strained to hear their conversation, the distance and the din of the bustling hospital made it impossible to make out their words.
But even from afar, I could sense the weight of the news that the doctor delivered.
The young man’s expression shifted, his features contorting with a mixture of anxiety and apprehension. It was clear that the news wasn’t what he had hoped for.
As the doctor walked away he followed him. I can assume he is going to the patient’s room.
After a few minutes he came back leaving a trail of uncertainty in his wake, the young man’s shoulders sagged, the weight of the world seemingly bearing down upon him. It was a heartbreaking sight, witnessing his struggle to grapple with the harsh reality of the situation.
With a heavy heart, I observed the young man approaching the reception desk. His demeanor was solemn, his eyes betraying a deep sense of sorrow. It was evident that he was grappling with an immense burden.
“Excuse me, I need to ensure that certain individuals are not allowed to visit the patient.”
I looked up, meeting his gaze with a mixture of sympathy and understanding. I could sense the gravity of the situation, the weight of the responsibility he carried on his shoulders.
His request was straightforward, but there was an underlying tension in his demeanor that caught my attention. It was as if he was trying to protect the patient from something or someone, though he didn’t divulge any further details.
“I understand. Can you provide me with their names?”
I was preparing to enter them into the system.
As he listed the names, I made a note of them, ensuring that they would be barred from visiting the patient. It was a small gesture, but I hoped it would bring him some measure of relief in his time of distress.
After he left the hospital, I couldn’t shake the feeling of sadness that lingered in the air. I could only hope that he would find solace and peace in the days to come.
[Hana PoV]
With a heavy heart, I stepped out of the hospital doors, the weight of my disappointment almost tangible. The thought of not being able to see Ryota, especially in his time of need, was crushing.
But as I walked away, a persistent voice echoed in my mind, refusing to let me succumb to despair.
[Are you giving up that easily?]
I halted in my tracks, the voice stirring something within me.
But they didn’t give me permission to visit him.
I murmured, my voice tinged with resignation.
[That’s not going to stop you, is it?]
I furrowed my brow, considering the implications of the voice’s words.
What do you mean?
[You don’t have to go through the front door; there are multiple ways to get inside a building. Just don’t get caught.]
The voice’s suggestion sparked a flicker of hope within me. Perhaps there was another way, a back entrance or a side door, that would allow me to bypass the restrictions and see Ryota.
Determined now, I turned back toward the hospital, my resolve firm. If there was a way to be by Ryota’s side, I would find it, no matter the obstacles in my path.
As I retraced my steps, a newfound determination coursed through my veins. The prospect of seeing Ryota, even if it meant defying the rules, fueled my determination.
With each passing moment, the hospital loomed closer, its imposing structure a testament to the challenges that lay ahead. But I refused to be deterred.
As I approached the building, I scanned my surroundings, searching for any potential entry points that might grant me access. The back entrance, tucked away from prying eyes, seemed like the most promising option.
Heart pounding with anticipation, I made my way toward the secluded entrance, careful to avoid drawing attention to myself. With each step, my resolve strengthened, bolstered by the thought of being reunited with Ryota.
Finally, I reached the back entrance, a small door nestled in the shadow of the building. Without hesitation, I pushed it open, stepping into the dimly lit corridor beyond.
“Wait for me Ryota!”
