Chapter 17: Sharks and Siberian Huskies
Translator: Soafp
A little before the Mysterious Heal Man arrived at the academy.
The dorm leader of the girls' dorm at the Magic Academy, and also a member of the Disciplinary Committee, Lucan Scharl, was wearing a troubled expression.
“Hmm, this is a problem. It's one thing that a bunch of suspicious people suddenly stormed the academy, but for them to have crushed everyone's fighting spirit this thoroughly…”
Early morning.
More than a hundred armed individuals had rushed into the Magic Academy, and most of the students had been captured.
Lucan sensed the disturbance quickly, gathered the uninjured students, and managed to escape to the old school building and set up a barricade… but…
The students were pale, and with morale at rock bottom, they couldn't even think about launching a counterattack.
“I don't wanna die yet!! If I have to die, at least let me drown in a bath full of gold coins!!”
“Senpai, you're loud.”
“Why are you so calm, Gal!? The academy's been taken over!! And the old school building is surrounded by those weird white-robed people — they could attack at any moment!!”
“My hometown is in a monster-infested frontier. I've literally risked my life every day. Thinking ‘I might die today' happened more than once or twice…”
“Your hometown sounds insane!?”
“Senpai, seriously, you're loud.”
However, among the demoralized students, there were a few who remained calm.
One of them was first-year student Gal Galwolf.
Among nobles of this peaceful era without wars, it was rare to find someone with such nerves of steel.
(I'd like to recruit him into the Disciplinary Committee, but I don't want to make enemies with the daughter of the Kainsetts Baron family… they opened all those sea routes and brought massive wealth to the kingdom. Better give up on that.)
She shook her head.
Now was the time to figure out how to get out of this crisis — not to think about scouting promising underclassmen.
“Everyone, can you listen for a sec? Anyone here confident in their combat abilities?”
Only a few students raised their hands among the dozens gathered.
Mostly second- and third-years.
With this number, escaping the academy while protecting all the non-combatants would be difficult. Lucan frowned again.
“Guess we'll just have to do it.”
“H–Hey, Lucan!! What are you planning!?”
“I'm going to leave the old school building and take out the enemy leader. That'll disrupt their command, and maybe everyone can escape. So the ones who can fight, protect this place while I'm gone.”
“W–Wait, Lucan Scharl!!”
The one who stopped her as she tried to leave was Jiluo Arnal, heir to the Arnal Ducal House.
“If we stay here, the knights will come to rescue us!! There's no need to take such a reckless risk!!”
“I think the knights won't move because of the hostages. So wouldn't it be better to take down the leader while the terrorists and knights are stuck in a standoff?”
“T–That—!!”
“…You shouldn't move anyway. You got sliced up pretty badly, remember?”
“Guh…”
Jiluo was missing an arm.
While escaping from the terrorists, it had been cut off.
A health committee member had happened to be nearby and used healing magic, but the bleeding had been severe. Jiluo looked like he might die any moment.
Seeing that, Frude Kainsetts from the broadcasting committee screamed.
“Uuugh, it's my fault!! Because I was running around screaming, the terrorists gathered, and then I shoved them toward the Arnal duke's son who happened to be nearby!!”
“Senpai, you're seriously the worst. Though honestly, trying to use his own subordinates as decoys makes the duke's son just as bad.”
“Hmph!! Obviously my life is more important than a bunch of nobodies!!”
“Wow, you're all garbage. Seriously.”
The one who said that, thoroughly fed up, was the fluffy Siberian Husky, Gal.
Gal stood and spoke to Lucan.
“Scharl-senpai, if you're going to take down the enemy, I'm coming too.”
“Hm? That's fine, but it's dangerous, you know?”
“I can't find my buddy. He might've been captured by those terrorists, so I gotta go save him.”
“Heh? That's nice. I love kids who care about their friends. Okay, let's go.”
And so, a shark and a Siberian Husky — a bizarrely mismatched duo — formed a party.
The two stepped out from the entrance of the old school building and faced the armed white-robed group.
Gal eyed them with irritation.
“…They're all skilled fighters. Great, just great.”
“There's a lot of them too… guess I'll have to use that.”
“That?”
“Fufu, time to show you something cool as your upperclassman. Can you stall them for a little bit?”
“What!?”
Lucan began chanting a spell, and Gal — suddenly stuck with the stalling job — braced himself and clawed at the white-robed men rushing at him.
“Guh— these guys!! What ridiculous strength!! They're strengthening their bodies with mana!?”
“…O Lord… deliver us… O Lord… deliver us…”
“Haa!? What are you mumbling!? Freaky!!”
He kicked a white-robe away and slashed deeply with his claws.
Yet despite taking what should've been fatal damage, the white-robed attacker stood up without showing a hint of pain, picked up his weapon, and charged again.
“You gotta be kidding me!! That should've been a killing blow!!”
“…O Lord… deliver us… O Lord… deliver us…”
“You're louder than Kainsetts-senpai, seriously!!”
“Dog-kun, my chant is done — you can fall back now!”
“Roger!! And I'm a wolf, please stop getting it wrong!!”
Gal kicked another white-robe away and leapt back.
“Grand Ocean Summon: Triton.”
“Whoa!? W-What is this magic!?”
“It's my original magic. I can turn the whole area into the sea.”
From the huge magic circle beneath Lucan's feet, an impossible volume of seawater erupted.
She had adjusted it so the old school building wouldn't be affected — still, she alone summoned something worthy of being called an ocean.
Waves swallowed the white-robed attackers.
Lucan then rode the momentum of the currents, swimming at tremendous speed as she fired spells at them.
“A shark's gotta swim in the ocean, right!!”
“W-Wait, senpai!! I can't swi— gboh— gububububu!!”
Gal was swept away with the white-robes, and Lucan rushed to retrieve him, lifting him onto her back.
“Sorry, sorry! I thought you could at least dog-paddle.”
“Cough— cough— huff… huff… I'm a wolf…”
“Alright!! Let's keep wiping them out!!”
“W-Wait—!”
A shark racing across the waves with a Siberian Husky on its back.
If Wandering Healer, who remembered his previous life, saw this scene, he would think:
“It looks like a B-movie.”
I saw a pillar of water rise in the distance.
Maybe some student is fighting those white-robes. I can sense someone injured too. I really want to hurry over and treat them, but…
“Nice to meet you, No-Face. I am Belchika, Cardinal of Wrath of the White Church. I'm the mastermind of this incident. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
What do I do.
A girl in a pure white robe, wearing a mirrored mask, politely bowed to me.
I didn't expect the leader of this chuunibyou-looking group to be a child.
