Chapter 68: See you tomorrow
Translator: Soafp
After taking a break at the food court, the two head home. Ginji carries the bags, and once they’re on the train, Sora starts nodding off.
“You can sleep. I'll wake you up.”
“But it's our date… nyamu…”
Murmuring, Sora rests her head on Ginji's shoulder and begins to breathe softly in sleep. Ginji stays as still as possible, not wanting to wake her, and gazes out the window. It'll probably be about 20 more minutes until their stop.
“…Ginji…”
“Hm? Are you awake?”
Ginji turns to look, but Sora is still breathing steadily in her sleep. She's clutching Ginji's shirt with both hands, a bit of drool at the corner of her mouth. Ginji chuckles and gently wipes her mouth with his sleeve.
“Dreaming about me too, huh?”
“Suuu…”
There's no reply, but her grip on his shirt tightens slightly.
“It was a fun day…”
The citrus scent of Sora's hair and the gentle rocking of the train make Ginji drowsy. He massages the bridge of his nose and pushes the sleepiness aside.
When they arrive at their station, Ginji wakes Sora. Realizing she had drooled in her sleep, she turns beet red. Ginji laughs heartily at her embarrassment.
On the way home by bicycle, the two chat about trivial things. They stop in front of Sora's house.
Ginji hands her the clothes she bought, and Sora places the bag by the front door.
“Thanks. I ended up falling asleep, but I had a really great time.”
“Me too. Next time, maybe we can catch a movie?”
Ginji responds casually, and Sora looks up at him bashfully, fumbling her words before finally speaking with resolve.
“…Hey, Ginji. This was… a date, right?”
“At least, that's what I thought.”
“Ehehe, me too. Then… here goes.”
“Whoa—”
Sora tries to pull Ginji's shirt to reach up to him, but she's a bit too short, and her lips land on his neck instead.
“Ahaha, missed. Well, see you tomorrow! Make sure to send a ‘like' when you get home!”
“…You should get some sleep. You're tired. See you tomorrow.”
Sora watches until Ginji is out of sight, then picks up her bag and heads inside.
She kicks off her shoes messily, drops the bag beside the couch, and flops down. Reaching out, she grabs the remote and turns on the AC. Today was exhausting, but in a good way—a comfortable kind of tiredness.
“…Can't sleep yet.”
She sluggishly gets up and heads to the shower. The warm water clears her head a bit—almost makes the date feel like a dream. Still in her underwear, she grabs some milk from the fridge and pours it into a mug. Her phone is blinking. While changing into her room clothes, she checks the app. Up until now, she'd only gotten work orders from Aika, so this made her a little happy.
“Messages from Ginji… and Suzu too.”
Ginji's message says:
‘I'm home. Go to sleep soon.'
It's short and to the point—very Ginji. Sora can't help but smile.
‘Okaaay~'
She adds a robot sticker. Suzu's message is asking about how the date went. Sora replies that they'll talk more next time and puts her phone down on the table. She stretches and lays out the clothes she bought neatly on the floor.
She'll put them away in the closet later. Thinking about the date, she decides to save the rest of the cleanup for tomorrow.
“Feels like… it's a waste to go to sleep.”
She takes out her notebook and adds more details to the smartphone case design she promised. Thinking about Ginji, she curls up on the couch and falls asleep.
Meanwhile, Ginji is lying on his bed, having just sent the message. He places his phone next to him.
His younger brother Tetsuya enters the room, having come out of the bath first.
“How was the date?”
“…Wow, that's rare. You never ask stuff like that.”
Ginji grins teasingly at his usually stoic and quiet brother.
“I just feel bad for Sora-senpai. She's putting her feelings out there so openly.”
“Yeah, I know. …Hey, Tetsu. Sora's amazing, you know?”
“I know.”
“Right?”
Ginji closes his eyes and nods slightly. When he opens them again, Tetsuya is standing over him.
“Sora-senpai's a good person. And if you say she's amazing, I believe it. But… you're my amazing Aniki.”
Tetsuya, expressionless as always, gives the slightest smile. Ginji stands up and messily ruffles his brother's hair.
“You idiot. That's my line. You're my amazing little brother. …Guess I was acting out of character. No point worrying before I've done everything I can. I'm fired up now—thanks.”
“You're only this anxious because your feelings are that strong. Go soak while the bath's still warm.”
“Alright. I'll crank it up till it burns.”
“That's a waste of gas.”
Laughing at his brother's jab, Ginji heads to the bath and pours hot water over himself.
Because it's precisely when something matters deeply that all he can do is give it everything he's got.
“I want… to make Sora happy.”
Ginji steels himself once more in the steamy bathroom.
