Chapter 65: Clothing Stores Are Tough When You're Alone

After changing Ginji's email address at the counter, the two left the mobile shop. Sora happily pulled out her phone and gazed at it with a grin.
“What are you grinning about?”
“Because I'm the very first person you told after changing your email. That makes me super happy.”
“…Well, if you're happy, that's good.”
Ginji wished he could come up with a more clever line, but nothing came to mind. Oh well—if Sora was in a good mood, that was what mattered.
“What should we do next?”
“We're going to buy clothes, right? Then we might as well just head into the shopping mall. Honestly, I've never really thought much about where to shop for clothes.”
“I think you look fine just the way you are. Yup—cool, even.”
Sora gave him a serious once-over, from head to toe, and nodded firmly.
“Well, you look cute enough as is, too.”
“Thanks, but… I still want more girly clothes. Like skirts and dresses. My casual outfits are all pants, and lately I've only been buying oversized shirts.”
“The pants, sure, that's from dressing like a guy before. But what's with the oversized shirts?”
At Ginji's unthinking question, Sora fell silent for a moment. Then she tugged on the hem of Ginji's hoodie and leaned in close to whisper in his ear.
“After I started high school, my ch*st suddenly got bigger, and it got annoying trying to adjust everything.”
Ginji straightened his posture instantly. His eyes nearly drifted toward her ch*st, which, now that she mentioned it, was rather full for her frame—but he fought to hold back.
“…That's on me. Let's go look for clothes.”
“It's fine, really.”
Sora looked smugly satisfied watching the slightly flustered Ginji.
As they started walking again, Sora reached out and linked her arm with his. Ginji turned his face away, embarrassed, but didn't pull away. Watching his reaction made Sora feel like skipping with joy.
He's definitely noticing me!
That thought made her so happy she could barely contain herself.
As they wandered aimlessly through the mall, figuring something interesting would come up if they walked enough, they spotted a store that looked popular with girls their age. It was a reasonably priced brand that carried clothes for both men and women.
“This looks good. I might find something here too.”
“Yeah… you're right.”
Sora's earlier high spirits calmed, and a slight nervousness began to show. Ginji looked at her, puzzled.
“What's up? Something bothering you?”
“It's not that, it's just… I've never gone into a clothing store like this in a mall before. I'm kinda nervous.”
“What do you usually do?”
“Mostly online shopping. I picked out clothes for Aika-chan too. But for someone like me, walking into a shop like this feels a little overwhelming.”
She clung a bit tighter to Ginji's arm, and he gave her a wry smile.
“Don't worry about it. It's not embarrassing if we're together.”
“Y-yeah… you're right.”
And so they entered the store together—and Ginji soon found himself regretting it.
“Whoa, there are so many colors. This is more fun than shopping online. How do you even put this on?”
“Hey, Sora…”
“Hmm, this one's cute too, but it looks hard to move in… Maybe it's for matching with specific outfits?”
“Sora, listen…”
Sora finally turned toward Ginji, responding to his voice.
“What's wrong, Ginji? Getting bored?”
“It's not that. Just… think about where we are. Doesn't it look weird with me standing here?”
They were in the women's lingerie section at the back of the shop. Because the dresses were nearby, Sora had dragged Ginji along without a second thought. But for a high school guy, this was seriously embarrassing.
“I'm embarrassed too, you know. I couldn't walk into such a brightly lit place on my own.”
“I'm going to check out the men's section. You pick something out.”
“No way! If you leave me here, I'll cry. I'll totally run away if a store clerk talks to me!”
Sora gripped Ginji's arm tightly and refused to let go, while Ginji now tried a bit more forcefully to shake her off.
“Shouldn't you be more embarrassed having me here? Isn't that, like, totally awkward?”
“Not with you. Besides, it'd be even weirder if I were here alone picking out underwear.”
Having spent so long dressing as a boy, Sora still felt awkward buying girly clothes in public. Her sense of embarrassment had gone a little sideways because of how much she trusted Ginji.
“It's not weird at all. Anyone can see you're a girl now.”
“Even if that's true, I'm still not used to all this!”
In the end, Ginji couldn't bring himself to abandon the teary-eyed Sora, and ended up sticking around while she chose underwear.
“This one's all frilly. Is this shape designed to show off the straps or something?”
“Please… just don't ask me.”
For the next ten minutes, Ginji endured the stares of everyone around them.
