Chapter 42: I forgot
Translator: Soafp
The morning's “incident” was over, and countless high school boys dispersed. The main culprit, Sora, had absolutely no awareness of what had happened. She usually stutters from nervousness, so even if the others reacted strangely, she didn't care at all.
Rather, she was satisfied that by straightening her back and speaking without slouching, she had managed to project her voice properly.
“Shall we head to the classroom soon?”
Ginji suggested, since Aika was about to arrive.
“Yeah.”
Taking her bag from Ginji, the two headed to the classroom. Even during that short walk, all eyes were on them… and especially on Sora. There was a girl no one had seen before in their grade, so both boys and girls stared. …And some of those stares from the boys she had greeted were particularly intense.
When they entered the classroom, the usual noisy chatter stopped abruptly, and silence took over. The girls, especially, looked confused.
“Heheh, quite a reaction, huh.”
“First period's math, right? Ginji, did you do the homework?”
Ginji glared back at the eyes aimed at him with a bad guy face, but Sora wasn't bothered at all.
“Yeah. I've never forgotten homework.”
“Heh, serious with that face, huh.”
“Face doesn't matter.”
They headed to their respective seats and sat down. When Sora sat, a girl approached with a troubled look.
“Um, that's a boy's seat. And well, there's some problems, like, it's better to keep your distance… You're the transfer student, right? The boy with you also has some issues, and you'll probably notice right away, but I think you should stop hanging out with him.”
Apparently, the girls hadn't realized that the boyish Sora and the current girl were the same person. Other girls nodded along. Only Mio Hazuki widened her eyes as if she had seen something unbelievable.
“Uh, this is definitely my seat.”
Sora, usually ignored and talked about behind her back, felt a bit nervous as she responded to the girl for the first time in a while talking to another girl.
“Eh?”
“I'm Sora Takagi. Just so you know, I'm not crossdressing. I've always been a girl.”
A murmur spread. Even without being told, it was obvious that the current appearance was her true self. Her large, clear eyes, delicate body, and pure white skin. The girls, who used to ignore her or even hide their belongings from her, couldn't hide their surprise at her confident transformation. Some even felt guilty selfishly.
Meanwhile, the boys immediately surrounded Ginji. They couldn't approach Sora (the cute girl) directly, but that's just how boys are.
“Hey Ginji, what's going on here?”
“Just what you see. She's a girl.”
Slowly, their classmates realized the truth from Ginji's answer.
…Isn't she cute?
Someone's whispered comment ignited the classroom, which soon filled with noise again.
“I got greeted by her.”
Murakami (making his first appearance) started bragging to other students, and as other boys tried to rush toward Sora, Aika appeared with several girls.
“Something noisy here? What happened?”
Brushing back her silver hair, Aika entered the classroom. Mio stood up and ran to her.
“Aika-sama! Good morning!”
“Oh, Mio. Sorry I couldn't come last week.”
“It's my fault for coming suddenly… but more importantly…”
Mio shot a sharp look at Sora, and Aika followed. Sora kept looking ahead without turning back. Ginji wasn't worried. After all, Mio and Aika were connected. When Sora left Aika and got first place in the grade, Aika's allies increased. Maybe they might do something to Sora.
Still, Ginji believed. He believed that Sora would definitely find happiness.
In a short time, he'd come to know how hard Sora worked, how interesting she was… and how cute she was when she smiled. So even without seeing her face clearly, he could tell.
Sora, with her back straight, was surely looking forward.
Prompted by Mio, Aika looked at Sora and covered her mouth. She took a step back, as if unable to accept what she saw.
“Why…”
At that moment, the teacher entered.
“Sit down—What the… Takagi?”
“Ah!”
Seeing the teacher freeze up, Ginji and Sora both cried out.
They had forgotten to notify the school.
