Chapter 28 | A Bunch of Troublesome People
Four students are gathered in the student council room.
A third-year student, Student Council President Takamiya.
The first-year students, Kinjo-san and Yashiro-san.
And me, Sakamoto Yuuji, a sophomore…by the way, my favorite food is pudding. I will never forgive anyone who tries to take it away from me even if it’s my biological sister.
Let’s get back to the story.
This is the first time I’ve met Kinjo-san here, but the other two are student council members, so we know each other in this room.
“Ah…phew.”
When our eyes meet, the young lady waves her hand happily. Even though I hardly know her, I still don’t feel any discomfort at all. I’m not sure what’s really going on with this young lady.
“How are you?”
“I’m fine. And long time no see, Yuuji-sama! You look so dignified today!”
“I’m glad you’re well… but please don’t call me dignified… well, it’s all true…”
“Yes, it is!”
“Uh-huh.”
(Yes, they didn’t get into it!)
Then the four of us took our seats.
Kinjo-san sat next to me, the student council president in front of me, and Yashiro-san diagonally across from me.
Although we are all in different grades, I am the only male student in the room, which is a terrible situation.
I’m sure the Student Council President doesn’t mean to offend me at all, but this space is very scary for me right now.
In particular, Yashiro-san is a danger.
She is an excellent person, and if she gets serious, she could easily crush me. It would be troublesome to make her an enemy. Let’s keep a proper distance as before.
─Just as Yuuji thinks, Yashiro has only had minimal conversations with him so far.
Of course, it was not that Yuuji was not good at talking to her, but it was mainly because he did not want to interrupt her conversation with Takamiya, or because she was his senior and he was being cautious of her, but the delicate distance with which he treated her was needed.
Moreover, she usually shows her exceptional brilliance, which also deepens Yuuji’s suspicions.
“I’m sorry, but…? Sakamoto-senpai? What’s wrong?”
“No…nothing…”
“I see…”
(──Something seems different from usual…?)
Yashiro tilted his head in discomfort.
However, there was nothing to be concerned about. He never dreamed that he was being watched.
So, as usual, he put a cup of tea in front of Yuuji… the usual tea that Yuuji drinks as it tastes so good.
“Sakamoto-senpai, I’m sorry for calling you out again today.”
“No…thank you…”
“You don’t have to be so polite.”
The fact that he is respectful to Yashiro is the same as usual, and that is the same Sakamoto Yuuji as before. And she, who is smart and can read the air, returns to a moderate distance.
(I can’t believe she’s even hanging out with Kinjo-san… Sakamoto-senpai can’t be left in the corner either.)
Inwardly, Yashiro is also concerned about Yuuji.
However, he is aware of the fact that Takamiya has for him (feelings she herself is unaware of), so he maintains this distance even more. This is because she does not want to become rivals with someone she is close to.
(Although…)
Yashiro looks at Takamiya like that and makes a dumbfounded face.
Takamiya is also distant from Yuuji. They don’t easily approach each other close enough to be able to touch.
However, this shyness is good for Yuuji right now. Thanks to this, he does not have to be wary of the Student Council President.
“…”
Yuuji kept staring at the tea in front of him.
The room got a little quiet, so Takamiya cleared her throat in a cute way and then slowly began talking.
“Well…actually, I have a request for Kouhai-kun…”
“What is it?”
Yuuji stared at his tea and asked, and Takamiya began to explain with a smile.
“Actually, we are going to hold a social event with local elementary school students. I’d like to ask you to help me if you’d like… It’s a little hard if it’s just me and Yashiro-chan.”
“A social event with elementary school students? What’s up with the other members?”
Takamiya and Yashiro are the only two, Yuuji wonders about that and asks about it.
There should be more student council members.
“The student council members are divided into three groups: kindergarten, elementary school, and junior high school. So I was told by the teacher to gather students who can help me in each of them.”
“I see. What a scumbag of a teacher.”
“You talk too much, don’t you? Well, that’s okay… I was wondering if you could help me, Kouhai-kun.”
“Help?”
“Yeah, what do you think?”
“…”
Yuuji begins to think silently.
But that doesn’t mean he’s wondering if he should help out with the social gathering. He was imagining the worst.
He wondered if he was being nice to the Student Council President made it so she could order to force him to do his chores like this.
Yuuji knows the personality of the Student Council President. He knew she would never do such a thing, but he couldn’t help but be suspicious of her.
“Oh, of course, I’m not forcing you to do anything! If you don’t want to, you can refuse!”
“…Are you sure?”
“Yes! Of course! The reason I asked you Kouhai-kun, is because I thought you were the most trustworthy. I think some other boys may be a little rough, but I know you won’t do that to me, right?”
“…Thank you very much.”
Calm down, Sakamoto Yuuji.
There is no doubt that this is the student council president’s true feelings. These words and actions are by no means a form of flattery to get me on board. There’s no need to be so suspicious.
The Student Council President may be shy but I know she would never do anything to deceive people. So I believe her.
If I suspect anything, I can just run away. Don’t worry, the Student Body President is a good person… she always helps me out…
…
…Huh?
I don’t remember the Student Body President ever helping me out.
Come to think of it, he brings video games to school, so isn’t this guy a bit crazy?
But, well, regardless of that…
“So, what do you think?”
“Oh, I don’t want to.”
“Ehhhh!?”
“Ah, you're too loud.”
Before I believed it or not…I just plain didn’t like it.
It didn’t matter if I didn’t like women anymore or not at all, I didn’t want to waste my time on school volunteer work. That’s the honest truth, inside and out.
First of all, what’s so special about having to deal with elementary school students? I’m sure there are elementary school girls there, and if I go there, I’ll just scare them away, you know?
“Why? Let’s do it, shall we? Right?”
“Oops? No forcing, okay?”
“Gggghh…!”
Takamiya slumped down on the chair as if he had lost all strength.
“And the Student Council President is mistaken, you know?”
“Mistaken?”
“Yes. I won’t do anything rude to an elementary school student, but I’m sure they’re going to be scared, right?”
“Indeed… if you ask me, you might be a little like that…?”
“I don’t think so.”
“You said it yourself, Kouhai-kun.”
“No, I just wanted to hear you say it’s not true.”
“If I tell you it’s not true, will you come?”
“Uwaa, you’re persistent.”
This exchange continued for a while.
