Chapter 39: Snow
Translator: Soafp
As the year neared its end, I was experimenting with teleportation magic in the practice area.
“Hmm… This is quite challenging.”
“What’s troubling you?”
“Ashera, I don’t know if I should tell you…”
“Well, I’m surprisingly bright.”
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot…”
“Go ahead.”
“I’m trying to figure out short-range teleportation. I’m considering the image of creating a hole in space to jump through versus moving to a different space and returning to see which is quicker and consumes less mana…”
“Fumu fumu.”
“Moreover, is it even possible to execute short-range teleportation with that imagery?”
“Fumu fumu.”
I stare at Ashera, but I’m certain she doesn’t get it. Let me tease her a bit.
“Roasted sweet potatoes are perfect when a stick goes through them.”
“Fumu fumu.”
“If you roast them too much, they burn. But a little charred taste is good too, right?”
“Hoo hoo?”
“The skin is delicious when it’s crispy. Last time, I rushed it, so the skin wasn’t thoroughly cooked.”
“Aldo! That’s a blasphemy against roasted sweet potatoes!”
“Is it? Well, next time, I’ll make sure to cook it thoroughly.”
“Okay. I’m looking forward to it.”
“So, Ashera, what do you think?”
“Hmm…”
“…”
“Roasted sweet potatoes are delicious!”
“Ah, yeah, they are.”
“Yeah”
“I will make them again sometime.”
“Thanks, Aldo.”
Honestly, talking with Ashera is enjoyable. It’s like a refreshing break for my overworked mind.
During this conversation, a gust of wind blows.
“Brrr, it’s cold!”
“Hmm. Aldo, are you cold?”
“Well, of course! Aren’t you cold?”
“I’m not. I’m magically warming the area around me.”
“Seriously?! You can do something that advanced?”
She gave me a V-sign with a smug look on her face. That’s so annoying!
“Can you teach me that?”
“Sure, but it’s surprisingly challenging.”
“It’s fine. If Ashera can do it, I should be able to too.”
“Muu, Aldo, that’s rude.”
In the end, I tried to learn the air conditioning spell from Ashera. The result? I couldn’t do it.
It was insanely difficult to warm just the area around me. I managed around a meter, but Ashera could warm a mere 5 centimeters around her.
According to Ashera, the colors looked different. It was surprising to witness the power of her magic eye.
(She looks clunky… No, she looks good… If she is being quiet, she looks like a lady from Fukamado… In any case, my pride won’t allow me to do something that Ashera can do and I can’t.)
I decided to train in secret when I got back.
Suddenly, something white passed in front of me. I tensed up for a moment, then relaxed and looked up at the sky.
“It’s snow…”
“Yeah, beautiful…”
Though it’s dark overhead, there are countless white snowflakes drifting around.
“No wonder it is cold…”
“Haa…”
Ashera blows on her hands, trying to warm them up.
“Did you turn off the air conditioning magic?”
“Yeah. It’s a waste not to experience this cold…”
“I see, you are right”
“Yeah.”
Ashera must be cold, so she snuggles up to me.
For a while, we stand there, watching the snow.
“Should we head back?”
“Yeah.”
Amidst the falling snow, we slowly walk back to the mansion.
Ashera doesn’t use the air conditioning magic in the snow on our way back.
That evening…
“It’s snowing.”
Mother’s words made everyone look worriedly out the window.
Marl had left earlier as she was picked up by Tab Company’s employees.
I proposed something to my parents.
“Father, Mother, with this blizzard tonight, could Ashera and Halva stay at the mansion?”
Father glanced at me, then turned to Ashera.
“That’s a good idea. Ashera, stay here tonight.”
Ashera seemed uncertain, hesitating a bit.
“Ashera, you’re my apprentice. There’s no need for reservations. Stay here tonight.”
“Understood, Master.”
It seemed Ashera decided to stay, thanks to Mother’s words.
Roland contacted Halva through the Knights Order, but he declined to stay at the mansion and insisted on lodging at the Knights’ quarters.
Mother enchanted the living room with air conditioning magic, making it warm.
I couldn’t call her “Refrigerator-san” anymore.
From now on, I will express my gratitude to the air conditioner. Perhaps I should call her Air Conditioner-san!
Everyone relaxed in the living room. I thought it would be nice to have a deck of cards for times like this.
Once, I mentioned making cards to Tab. He was was eager and quickly approached artisans.
However, the response was that while the front designs were feasible, replicating the back patterns identically was impossible. It seems that without lithographic printing, creating playing cards might be challenging.
But is it worth introducing something nonexistent in this world, pushing cultural advancements for something as simple as playing cards?
I plan to discreetly consult my father about this next time.
Clara was the most excited about Ashera staying over. Apparently, they’ll be sleeping together tonight. Ashera seemed happy; she usually stays alone.
And so, the night slowly passed by.
The next morning…
After breakfast, I looked out the window.
“… it really piled up.”
I muttered as the view outside revealed a world blanketed in white, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Putting on my shoes, I ascended to the roof of the mansion using spatial kicks.
The view from the roof was a panoramic, 360-degree vista of the snowy landscape. If only I had a camera, I’d want to capture this moment.
“Al Nii-sama! Al Nii-sama!!”
I could hear Clara calling out. Looking down, I saw Father, Mother, El, Ashera, and Clara looking up at me.
I leaped out into the sky using space kicks and descended straight down. Just before reaching the ground, I slowed my speed using another space kick and landed gently.
“Al, how was the view?”
“It was an incredible sight, Father.”
“I can’t come up, but could you show Clara?”
“Yes, of course. Come, Clara!”
“Yes, Al Nii-sama!”
I picked up Clara princess-style.
“Hold on tight.”
“Yes!”
“Let’s go!”
Using spatial kicks, I swiftly ascended to the roof with Clara in my arms.
“How’s the view, Clara?”
“Amazing, amazing! I’ve never seen anything like this!
“I see. But don’t let go of me.”
“Yes!”
We enjoyed the view, and soon, El and Ashera joined us on the roof.
“Aldo, Master wants to see too…”
“Seriously… How much does she think I can lift?”
“Weight discussions are off-limits when it comes to ladies.”
“Understood. Clara, can you move towards Ashera?”
“Yes, I can. Please, Ashera Onee-sama.”
“I’ve got you.”
Clara passed over to Ashera, and I descended to the ground.
“Mother, are you really going up?”
“Of course, I am!”
I looked at Father, hoping for his support, but he subtly shook his head.
“Alright, hold on tight.”
“Got it!”
I princess-carried Mother, but our height difference meant her skirt was dragging. I could only do this because of my enhanced physique.
With Mother in my arms, I sprinted up to the top of the mansion.
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Amazinggggggggggg! So beautiful!”
“Mother, please don’t scream in my ear.”
“What? Did you say something? Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! This feels greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!”
“Never mind…”
This way, not only on the roof but for about five minutes in the air, I was able to give her a little stroll.
By the time we landed, I had to receive a bit of mana from El.
As everyone was satisfied and about to head back to the mansion, Father seemed a little lonely.
I wished I could’ve shown him too, but both El and I had already used up our mana for another trip up. I’m sorry, Father.
