Chapter 3: Inside my dreams.
Translated and Edited by: ynlucca.
Enjoy!
That night I had a dream. It was so comforting and fluffy, I immediately knew it wasn’t real… It was a dream about when I met Lulu.
I first met her at a party hosted by the Count of Camell, to which Lyla invited me. Even though their family and mine are on the same hierarchical level, there was no particular connection between us. In fact, the Camell was basically our opposite due to the fact they belonged to the royalist faction, and that they managed the mountainside to the north while we managed the seaside south. If it weren’t for my friendship with Lyla, I would’ve never been invited to that party.
Since I was only a thirteen-year-old student at the time, I was terribly nervous. It was also my first time attending a party with the other factions of our country. Lyla, being one of the organizers, had to go around the hall where the main guests were. Meanwhile, I stood by the walls after formally greeting the Count and Countess of Camell.
My parents were used to it, as expected, and they soon found some relatively friendly people to chat with. There were also a few of my classmates here and there, but because the emphasis in school was on learning and not on status, there was no one I could casually talk to at the party due to our difference in social class.
…It was Lulu who then found and called out to me.
“Your eyes have a beautiful color!” She looked up at me and laughed at my freakish purple eyes, neither blue or red as they should’ve been.
“You are…?”
“Me? I’m Lulu. I want to look at your eyes more, so squat down! Come on, c’mon!”
That Lulu girl left me so bewildered, she ended up grabbing my clothes and begging me to scoot down. Then, a few of the Count of Camell’s followers appeared.
“…We found miss. Please, return to your room at once.”
“No! I’m going to the party! I wanna play at a party too!”
Using me as a wall, Lulu quickly hid from her retainers. At the age of ten, most aristocrats give their children their social debut, but even at eleven, she had yet to do so. I learned later that her grandparents were worried since she was once terribly sick, so they had postponed the debut. Therefore, until she was properly introduced to noble society, she wasn’t supposed to attend this party.
Naturally, the squires, who knew all about this, didn’t back down. Instead, they apologized to me for the confusion and tried to persuade the little girl.
“We have new toys in your room, miss.”
“I want the party now!”
“We also have some rare sweets and snacks there—”
“No, no! Don’t wanna!”
“…My, oh my. Why is my cute little kitten in a place like this, hm?”
“M, mom! U, um, you know, I—”
Eventually, the countess, who must’ve been called at some point prior, showed up and immediately took her to the party venue. I could do nothing but watch her go, hand in hand with her mother.
“I’m sorry, Ruben. My sister troubled you.”
“Lyla… So she was your sister…”
Before I knew it, Lyla popped up by my side. Then, she followed up with some words I couldn’t really recall. The only thing I picked up then was her name: Lulu.
It was a striking encounter I would like to forget today, but couldn’t.

March 20, 2023 at 4:20 pmThank you for the chapter! I’m really curious to see how the broken engagement goes down from her side. The “your eyes are pretty” line from last chapter was definitely not as sweet as I expected it to be, it seems like she’s never cared about the MC as more than an interesting toy.
