Chapter 1: Prologue.
Translated and Edited by: ynlucca.
Common Honorifics:
-san: A polite suffix, but not excessively formal.
-kun: A common suffix among friends and younger people.
-chan: A common suffix among people you’re close with, mostly used for feminine nicknames and girls, since it’s cutesy and childlike.
-senpai: A common suffix and noun used to address or refer to one’s older or more senior colleagues in a school, workplace, dojo, or sports club.
TL Note: I’m translating names as if they were Western, meaning the first one you’ll see is the first name, and the other one is the last.
Oh, and I found this one while scouring Syosetu. It’s quite interesting, it’s short and complete to boot! Enjoy!
The nostalgic, yet barren scent of scorching asphalt assaulted my nose for the first time in what felt like — and were — ages. This manufactured aroma was the trigger that brought me back to my own senses, and definitely, something I could’ve never experienced back where I came from.
Yes, I’m…
“I’m back!!!”
After two years that felt like twenty, I’d finally returned to modern-day Japan. With both arms praising the Sun, and while tears welled up in the corner of my eyes, I shouted with no regard for the bustling street before me.
“I’m finally back from that god-forsaken world! Damn it, the number of times I’ve been a hair’s breadth away from death… Aren’t reincarnations and stuff meant to come with some cheat skills or stuff like that? Maybe an unrivaled talent for something? Anything?! Ahh, just thinking about it makes my blood boil!”
As I vented about the detestable, despicable, and disgraceful of my adventuring days in that hellhole, passersby cast disapproving glances at me.
“Damn it, damn it all!” I hollered once more, incapable of holding back my vitriol. “Sure, it’s good to be back, but who the f*ck just spits, ‘Ah, I’m done using you, so it’s fine’? I’ll definitely get my payback on that goddess for sure!”
Despite my reluctance to recall those nightmarish memories, the flashbacks kept breaking the dam. With that and my outbursts in mind, it’s pretty obvious my otherworldly experience was far from pleasant. And while I have no desire to provide a detailed rundown of my suffering, I can say one thing for certain: I’ll never set foot in that maggot pit ever again. I’ll keep it at that.
Stomping my feet and gritting my teeth, I continued to shout as to let all these gargling poisons out. But I couldn’t keep that up forever.
As I thought these things, someone called out from behind. And it wasn’t just a random passerby either…
“Master, you’re too loud.”
“What the…?!”
The voice calling out from my back was as familiar as it’d ever been. After all, its owner was someone that had been with me just a few moments prior to my awakening.
“M-Miriya?”
“Yes, Miriya here. Your Miriya, Master. Is something wrong, perchance?”
Her tone was ever-so nonchalant, and a tilt of her head added cuteness to it. She was a beautiful girl and my personal sl*ve in that otherworldly hellscape. Now, an explanation. Given that I was only bestowed with bottom-of-the-barrel skills, hiring a sl*ve like her was the only way for me to embark on an adventure without the fear of betrayal. It was a way to ensure my own survival in an odd land.
Naturally, we’d just bid our farewells a short while ago. Though, it wasn’t an exactly touching or dramatic parting, courtesy of that witch of a goddess’ forced return. Anyway, putting that aside…
“Y-You… Why are you here?!” My mouth hung open and my eyes shot wide.
Why wouldn’t I be surprised? She was a resident of that evil and had no rhyme or reason to be here. In contrast to my flabbergastedness, Miriya calmly explained what had happened to me.
“I jumped into the goddess’ magic circle.”
“Hello?!” She just jumped in?! “Why did—?”
“—Because I am yours, Master.”
“Hold on…!”
Although we weren’t transported to a highly crowded area, it was still the middle of a street. The astonished gazes of the passersby, especially after hearing the word “sl*ve” being thrown around, were uncomfortable, to say the least. Plus, she still had that collar of subservience hung around her neck!
Some of the onlookers murmured, “What’s up with that couple?” or “Is that some kind of play…?”
Shrugging, I came back to my senses. “Let’s go back to my place for now. We’ll talk there…”
“Wherever you go, I will follow, Master,” she said, a smile as serene as the windless sea.
…Her whole expression put a stop to my worries. She’d always been unfair to me ever since we first met, so it was quite hard to ever be annoyed at her once she threw me those wholesome eyes.
“…Let’s go.”
“Yes, we shall,” she nodded.
Perhaps that damned deity was considerate after all, as my family home was within walking distance. I pulled her by the arm as we navigated our way there under the scorching Sun. I ignored all those cold stares, though I couldn’t blame any of them. After all, I was dressed up as some knock-off adventurer, and Miriya was as a maid sl*ve.
“That goddess really is a which after all…”
Once again, I swore in my heart I’d seek revenge against that unholy deity.
T/N: This series is actually interesting, and is completed. So yeah, I’ll go ahead with it until the end. Boy, oh boy, the next chapter will be quite scrumptious.
