…What did I just feel?
No, I understood what it was. Having a Dark attribute begets mistreatment, and all of us have neither support nor backing. Furthermore, it was the Cursemaker girl herself who joined this ridiculous party despite these conditions… I had no say in this situation.
Biting my lip, I silently tried to suppress the urge to intervene.
Among adventurers, there exists an implicit rule that other parties do not interfere with the internal issues of another, whatever they may be. If one were to break that unsaid agreement, it could lead to an all-out war between the parties.
What would be achieved by my interference? For instance, even if I were to provide the exhausted girl with my advanced potion, what difference would it make?
Worst case scenario, she would no longer be able to remain with that party, isn’t that right? So, it’s fine… It’s fine to let it be. After all, I’m sure it’s much better for that girl to be in that party than alone…
Once again, something inside me creaked and crunched, and I tried not to listen.
Before anything else happened, however, I heard the crackling of bark and the rustling of leaves. —Nevermind anything else, I need to get out of here before I get noticed.
Dawn had finally broken through the misty remnants of night, and it was time for the Forest of Bewitching Trees to finally reveal its truth. Having nature spread magic so conspicuously, it won’t be long before—
“Bwah?! Wh-what is this?! What’s happening?!”
Ah, it’s already too late.
“Wh-what the hell!? The ground… the ground is bulging up! Our spoils of war!”
Within the heart of the Forest of Bewitching Trees, where the sun finally grazed its leaves and the dew wherein, the rough screaming of men could be heard from quite far.
Perched on the large tree near the spring, I could see the changes below. The ground crumbled and slid, roots slithering and emerging from below one after the other, each thicker than a burly man’s arm.
As the earth seemingly regurgitated those entities, trunks and branches rose from the cracks in the soil, enveloping the mangled corpses of the wolves as the masses built upward and higher.
True to the name Forest of Bewitching Trees, the seeds of the enchanted Trent lay scattered and buried throughout the forest, waiting patiently for their moment to sprout.
Sunlight, the energy left behind by the deceased bodies of humans and creatures alike, and the fresh magic energy released into the air served as nourishment for the growing trees, if they could even be called that.
But wait… This size, could it be…?!
As if confirming my uneasy premonition, Buffon let out a deep, guttural scream. “Bwaaaah?! Wh-what’s this, this gigantic monster?!”
Answering his wails, a single colossal figure emerged from the ground as if breaking a cocoon, trees twisting into one with rumbles and crunches. It towered above Buffon’s party with a height that could rival even the tree I was perched on.”A Giant Trent!” I covered my mouth.
Then, a complex and sylvan roar erupted from the creaks in its trunk that tried to resemble eyes and mouth. Before anyone knew what was happening, the worst and most titanic monster within this whole forest revealed its true form to us.
