Chapter 64: Hikoboshi and Orihime do not meet
[Sekka PoV]
“…..Yeah, thanks.……–see you later, Yuri-chan.” (Sekka)
I hung up the phone after contacting my niece.
Sweat ran down my back from the heat and I turned on the air conditioner. I sat down on the couch and sipped my barley tea.
……It’s not easy for Yuri-chan.
My niece, Yuri, is my sister’s daughter, and she seems to be having a hard time. She was on a family trip to a hot spring, but it seems that there was another disturbance.
Huh.……. He’s a troubled boy indeed.
As soon as I take my eyes off of him for a moment, he’s involved in something strange.
And by the time I find out about it, it’s usually over. This is something that I don’t like about him.
It seems that Yuri has been trying to approach Yuki in various ways, but it doesn’t seem to be bearing fruit. There is no progress. But it was difficult to make any progress in the first place, and I had never heard of a family vacation before. It seemed fortuitous that the distance between them had grown so close.
–This is the beginning. From here on out, we’re moving forward.
Things are getting better little by little. What had been inexplicably negative until now has merely become zero. It doesn’t mean anything has been built up. Don’t be naive. Nothing has started yet.
There must have been something between my sister and Yuki that only they knew about. I’m sure it’s the same for Yuri, and Yuki won’t tell anyone about it himself, and even if he did, he wouldn’t tell her.
It was difficult to know what to do now.
After all, Yuki is not attached to anyone.
He doesn’t want or need anything from anyone.
The fact that Yuki tries to do everything by himself is just the price he has to pay.
That’s why he can’t go beyond that. A future with someone else does not exist in Yuki’s daily life. Yuki has tried to move forward and failed. Each time he failed, he continued to be alone, and yet he could not break free. Although I was the one who started it all, everything from that point on was a series of unexpected events.
There was no trust or confidence in anyone, and even if there had been, it was not the same as trust or confidence in general. Even if someone he trusted, they betrayed him. Yuki wouldn’t feel anything or be hurt. He has been convinced that this is the way it is from the beginning. It’s something akin to resignation, where you only think it’s your fault.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a parent, a sibling, or even a lover.
If things continue like this, even if there is someone next to Yuki who will never betray him until the day she dies, his perception will never change. That is the rule of Yuki-chan’s world.
That’s how Yuki’s “common sense” works.
Yuki’s world has been colored by such “common sense.”
Is he just unhappy? Or is it just bad luck?I don’t know. But Yuki-chan is a gentle living being who has a different type of common sense.
I can only say that it’s a very bad and evil coincidence.
Still, I’m moving forward just because I’ve realized that the feelings I’m getting are not only hostility, but also goodwill. It’s the chance I’ve been waiting for.
“I wonder if…… Galileo felt this way?” (Sekka)
I chuckled at the ridiculous fantasy. It’s too much of a leap.
However, Galileo, who followed the will of Copernicus and advocated the geocentric theory, did not change his belief that the earth rotates even after being put on trial by a religious court.
Common sense is such a strong thing. It is so strong that even when presented with evidence, it stubbornly refuses to admit it. Just like a philosophical debate instead of a factual dispute, sometimes people only believe what is convenient. And for Yuki, it’s not even a matter of convenience, it’s a matter of normalcy. An inexplicable and unreasonable fate.
It is extremely difficult to overturn “common sense.”
The peaceful Japanese, who no longer carry weapons after the sword hunt, cannot understand the “common sense” of the gun society.
The “common sense” that Yuki has cultivated so far is unknown to us. Perhaps it is only those who can overcome such a fate that can walk alongside him.
Nevertheless, Yuki’s surroundings have been noisy lately.
It’s as if a major shift in destiny is approaching—-.
The sound of taiko drums rang out. As the festival music played a unique melody, people passed around the stalls, some carried portable shrines, and others danced the Bon dance. People of all ages, men and women. Adults, children, and ladies. Gigue does not strike back. Masterpiece guaranteed. Everyone seems to be having fun. Everyone was full of smiles. –except me.
I moved to the edge of the room so as not to get in the way and waited in a daze at the meeting place. I checked my watch and saw that it was around 6pm. The fireworks were to start at 7:00 p.m., but the rendezvous time that Hinagi had specified was 5:30 p.m. It’s been more than half an hour now, and I haven’t seen or heard from her, which means I’ve been waiting for almost an hour, considering I arrived at 5pm.
A savory smell drifted from the stalls. I hadn’t eaten dinner. I was starving. I bought some takoyaki (octopus balls) and ate them, but I couldn’t really look around the stalls, so it was idle time.
There was no sign of Hinagi. I realize that’s enough.
…… Did she abandon me?
When I think back, there was a time when I was invited to a party by several male and female classmates, and I was the only one who was told to meet at a different place. No matter how long I waited, no one showed up. I didn’t get the call until after I got home. When I went to school the next day, they laughed and told me it was just a joke. It sucks.
After that, I continued to ignore them as if they didn’t exist, and now I can’t remember their faces or names. I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t. I don’t know why they suddenly changed their attitude later, laying out silly excuses, but I can’t hear the voices of those who don’t exist. It was a complete afterthought, and it is still a festival today.
It was a very boring episode, but I’m sure that Hinagi was not like that.
However, what I know is the Hinagi of the past, not the Hinagi of the present. People change. It could be said that I am the only one who does not change. I’m not sure what the real reason for this is, even though we’ve been estranged for a while now and have recently started talking again due to various reasons.
“Kokonoe?” (???)
I was stopped. The person who called out to me was not Hinagi Suzurikawa. In the first place, it was not even a woman.
“……who?” (Yuki)
“Don’t forget who I am! We’re in the same class!” (Takahashi)
“I’m kidding. Kondo.” (Yuki)
“Who the hell is that? It’s Takahashi! Kazunari Takahashi. It’s been about 4 months already.……” (Takahashi)
“Well, well. You’re Kazunari Takahashi, right? I remember you.” (Yuki)
“Really……?” (Takahashi)
“You’re Kazunari Takahashi, the guy who plays on the badminton team. I know you.” (Yuki)
“I’m on the soccer team.……” (Takahashi)
“You’re Kazunari Takahashi, you’re active in the soccer team. I know.” (Yuki)
“You’re just gathering information by making me tell you first.……” (Takahashi)
What a light-hearted guy, but unlike me, Kazunari Takahashi was not alone in the rear. A pair of men and women.
Uhm…… who?
“Are you a sugar daddy?” (Yuki)
“Why! It’d be bad if it was. This is my sister, Tachibana. Come on, say hi.” (Takahashi)
“……Hello” (Tachibana)
She grabbed a bit of Takahashi’s hem and quickly hid behind it to see the boy looking at her. She was wearing a yukata, which suited her well, but it certainly didn’t look like a date. If it were a date, I’d be pissed off from all sides.
“Takahashi, is my brother.……” (Tachibana)
“Tachibana is in the second grade. My mother was busy. Since it’s a festival, I brought her along.” (Takahashi)
“Oh, I see. Then I’ll give you some candy.” (Yuki)
I took out a candy from my pocket and handed it to Tachibana-chan as a sign of my closeness. She took it without hesitation. She seemed a little shy, but she was a good, honest girl.
“Well, why are you here, Kokonoe?” (Takahashi)
“I thought we were supposed to meet up, but apparently not.” (Yuki)
“What? There were a lot of people from our class here. I saw Sakurai and the others taking Shakado around earlier.” (Takahashi)
“Elizabeth? I just hope the shady Shakado doesn’t melt away.” (Yuki)
“Every time I think about it, who is Elizabeth…..?” (Takahashi)
“Here, Tachibana-chan, pull here. It’s a universal flag.” (Yuki)
“Wow! That’s awesome!” (Tachibana)
“What is that?” (Takahashi)
When Tachibana-chan pulled the string coming out of my pocket, the World Flag came out smoothly. I had bought it out of curiosity at the general store I stopped at on the way here, but it was a useless item, but it unexpectedly turned out to be useful. Tachibana-chan’s eyes were sparkling. I’m confident that it will be popular with children.
“Are the Takahashi Brothers leaving already?” (Yuki)
“Don’t talk about them like we’re the red brother and the green brother. We’re at the top of the apartment building, so we can watch the fireworks from our balcony. Is Kokonoe on a date with someone or something? Sorry. We got in the way, didn’t we?” (Takahashi)
“No, I’m leaving too.” (Yuki)
“Is that so? Oh, by the way, I saw Suzurikawa just now, but she was with some boy.…… No, isn’t that the case only for Sazurikawa?” (Takahashi)
“—It seems I was mistaken.” (Yuki)
“Wh? What hap—” (Takahashi)
“I’m hungry, so I’ll just go home. See you later, Tachibana-chan.” (Yuki)
It’s a waste of time to stay in this place forever. The fireworks were about to start, but I didn’t feel like watching them alone. I’ll just go to some stalls and go home.
If I ruminate on Kazunari Takahashi’s words, the answer will come to me naturally.
Haha, I see. She sent it to the wrong person, didn’t she?
The contact from Hinagi was not addressed to me from the beginning, was it?
It’s more likely that she misdirected it with the intention of inviting someone else. I’m also not sure why she didn’t correct me when I replied back, but maybe she didn’t realize it was from me.
I don’t think it’s possible, no matter how many times I’ve seen it, but if Hinagi isn’t here and she’s still going around the summer festival with someone else, then the fact that she’s there in front of me, no matter how unnatural, is the answer. Now that I think about it, there have been many times in the past when Hinagi has sent me messages that I didn’t understand.
I should have realized it earlier.
–There was no way that Hinagi, who had swatted my hand away that day, would have invited me to the summer festival.

August 26, 2021 at 12:54 amThanks for the chapter. Damn, man. Yukito is really man of steel. The funny thing is, why does Yukito don’t try to approach his male friend? If it’s me, I’ll go with Takahashi sibling.

August 26, 2021 at 2:13 am…………………………….*sigh*x100000000000…….Here we go again…………………*truly tired sigh*..
The worthless childhoodfriend try it again…..but….for some reason……she fails again………really?……….And she seems to be with another man……..I’m serious, that if she was being hitted on but she wasn’t capable of telling the guy to f**k off until this long….i’m gonna…….She probably should have meet with Yukito on the door of her house or his house….*insert “You don’t learn meme” here*
Don’t tell me that she came at the appointed time but was hitted on, took a while to get herself out, Yukito wasn’t in that spot for some reason, came to look for him, got hitted again and miss him………….Also, Yukito seem to had garbage classmates, i really don’t feel pity that Yukito didn’t even bothered to remember any of them and didn’t went to the school trip(sorry for the teacher though)(but why did they try to get close to him again?…..they probably got chewed by someone…..).
……..Well, next chapter, Hiragi is gonna be crying when she realize that she screw Yukito again(i’m sure it wasn’t on purpose……) by the mouth of her classmates no less……and she is gonna be chewed by Yuri, her parents and sister again….no perhaps this time will be worse……..Yukito absolutely will blabber about how she sent the message to the wrong person again…in the classroom…….strangely i don’t feel even a single bit bad for Hiragi………..
Seems that Yukito’s aunt realizes the situation correctly as well how to help Yukito, but well even if she is aware how to help him, in the practice won’t go as smoothly as she think.

August 26, 2021 at 2:22 am“Galileo […] advocated the geocentric theory,”
To my knowledge, Galileo challenged the geocentric theory and advocated the heliocentric theory in its place.
Geo- meant as Earth- and helio- meant as Sun- there. Current views are that our universe doesn’t have a single, universally recognized center point.

August 26, 2021 at 2:37 amElizabeth is one of the few girls who isn’t interested in Yukito… Actually she and gyaru are the only ones i know of. I kinda wanted Elizabeth to be a heroine from the beginning but…who is Shakado? Side romance? Or since he said Elizabeth and the others i guess not

Its things like this that slowly reinforce that thinking that he doesnt need anyone and anybody doesnr need him.

August 26, 2021 at 5:36 amshe messed up again. at this point, i don’t feel even a little bit of sorry for her.
Mr. Lister
August 26, 2021 at 8:32 amThe ride truly never ends. Since him doing his dammedest to believe her and going against the urge to break again was the reason he started trying to improve, is this going to cause a relapse? And I’m sure there’s an explanation and this is a misunderstanding, but Jesus girl text him or something if you’re late.
Also never mind the 2D anime wincest logic, at this point a healthier relationship would be would be for him to start tagging his own mom, sister and/or aunt then for him to continue dealing with the crap surrounding Hiragi.

August 26, 2021 at 10:08 amFirst of all, people really need to chill out. Yes, she’s screwing up again; but how much you wanna bet it’s the aggressive douchy ex-boyfriend or someone related to him? Or maybe it’s BOTH their male friend and they were walking around looking for the MC. There are a plethora of reasons why she couldn’t/ didn’t have a reason to run away from the guy she is “walking” around with.
Second of all, She’s not the only dumb person in this novel; the MC is one too. While we all know he has a severe mental condition, for someone that claims to not have emotions, he sure gets upset easily. He’s unwilling to at least wait/call the woman to see if it’s true she’s messing with him. While it’s interesting to see how a person could be this mentally afflicted, in a lot of these scenarios, he’s literally the reason why he’s so messed in the head.

August 26, 2021 at 10:34 amUnless this is her ex boyfriend hassling her and stopping her from meeting him this is pretty crappy.

August 26, 2021 at 6:35 pmThanks for the chapter, I small part of me is hoping that she is just waiting for him at his house and he runs into her, but I get the feeling this isn’t the case and it is something dumb that could be explained by a text. Maybe it’s her little sister?

August 26, 2021 at 7:33 pmIt’s boy so it can’t be little sister, dunno reason but she could inform him that she will be late or anything… She can’t be looking for him when he is on the spot they were supposed to meet and if someone was harrasing her she could shout for help…
Eternal King
August 27, 2021 at 5:59 pmSo one thing I feel like people have ignored is one of the Mc’s problems, and no, I don’t mean his idiocy or bad luck or his self esteem(which ties into his “mental state”, despite how not great the writer handles this part). Not to say this problem is “bad” per say, but it is something that exists.
It’s that he’s extremely spiteful. Like seriously, not to say it’s wrong, but you can’t deny he has a tendency to jump the gun and go off the rails. Sure his teachers f****d up, and his classmates were dicks, but instead of doing what everybody else in that position would do, namely become a loner and accept being bullied or becoming a delinquent, he then proceeds to go on this elaborate a*s investigation and instigate a fight that can’t be blamed on him, then proceeds to beat up and scare the others, and force out the truth, while completely destroying the class atmosphere for them all, all the while including the classmates who were not involved and didn’t want to be bullied. He says it himself. This kid went ahead and chuuni-a*s declared them “enemies”, not just “not classmates or teachers”, but straight up enemies.
It’s clear to me that aside from forcing others way and refusing to connect and rely on anyone other than himself, he also clearly bases his actions on his own satisfaction, though unknowingly. When his childhood friend says she’s getting a boyfriend, even though he says it’s for her sake, he’s cutting off their connection entirely because HE thinks so and feels he knows what’s best for her. He didn’t bother to really communicate with her or anything. He said his peace, and peaced out even when the backstory mentions are completely clear that she was visibly having a hard time even since then. With the manager girl, it’s the same. Her friends were teasing her and even knew what she said wasn’t true, but got worried because he heard her. Then he refuses to consider that she could have said that out of being flustered. EVEN though he constantly does the same thing as them where he gives other people s**t verbally all the time, including every guy as well as the goddess senpai people are always bringing up, but perhaps the difference being that he seems entirely serious in those cases, which is likely why he also doesn’t understand manager-Chans feelings on the matter. However, the case remains that he refused to listen to her at all just because she had a moment of weakness that everybody who’s had a crush on someone and shared it with their friends has had. He’s actually low key undermining their feelings and resolve, like in the case of the childhood friend who has straight showed her naked body to him iirc.
He legit refuses to accept anyone who lies even once, which is extremely unhealthy, with the exception of his family, who he in turn takes completely seriously to the point of being willing to kill himself for them instead of doing literally anything else. Even though he ‘tries’ thinking of others, he ultimately only accepts his own perceptions of what he believes they’re thinking. It’s mentioned before by the MC that he’s like his father, and that honestly rings even more true than just in regards to women. The Dad felt feelings of inferiority to the mother, and instead of being honest and conveying his feelings to her and growing their relationship, he took the easy way out and had an affair. MC has so far, avoided everybody who he decides scorns him even once to not build a relationship with them, like the case where he was given a wrong place to hang out with the class, which by now we all understand is likely to be some misunderstanding, or if not, is only on the specific group, and not the whole class.
It’s the case even now. There are dozens of explanations to explain why the childhood friend could be seen “walking” with a guy, the least of which is just the classmate straight up being wrong and thinking a guy next to her is her date or that she got hurt and is being helped(which we have seen happened in other media). Instead of finding and confronting her and the truth, he’s fallen back into old habits and decided she’s somehow lying to him or made a mistake. He’s self aware enough to realize he’s a harem protagonist, yet somehow still not enough to realize he’s a drama protagonist, which means that misunderstanding also happen all the time, despite his family relationship having been one from the beginning, the current relationship with his class having slightly moved on from his misunderstanding of not being popular, and the ones where he supposedly accepted managers and childhood friends words.
Personally, despite all the talk about the best girl for him is someone who he has no relationship with, that’s just way too boring. Girls like the Manager and childhood friend have the feelings, a goal, and an endgame. They like him, want to make up for the misunderstandings, and want to date him. Those are infinitely more interesting than random college girls who decide they like him. Even the other senpai in the story are more one note and boring than the two girls(#2) and the family members(#1). The teacher women are third place on the interesting scale though. But honestly, the story has kind of stagnated since he’s gotten his three kisses outside of the teachers backstory since more and more older girls are just being thrown at him. It hasn’t even built up the childhood friend and managers repaired relationship outside of them eating lunch together once. The family has more development then them. I’d actually be a little disappointed if this doesn’t have the harem ending, since his family members and the teacher have just been throwing themselves at him, not enough that I would call the story bad, but honestly the writing hasn’t so far, been anywhere good enough to feel like it could do the “pick one choice and the others have to deal” good.
Whacka
August 27, 2021 at 10:16 pmThe problem is that for a normal person you are completely correct and what you describe would be how he should solve his problems.
But the problem is the Yuki is a seriously messed up person with a fully twisted common sense (reinforced over the years time and time and time and time and time and time again) that leads to Yuki choosing the “lone wolf” answer to any questions since everybody else is NOT an ally (must not be an enemy).
So Yuki thinking that the childhood friend messed up or messed with him is 100% how Yuki with HIS common sense would react to this or similar situations.
TL:DR Yuki is too messed up to read a situation as a normal person so he reacts like a “lone wolf” instead.
