Chapter 1: The boy is a failure.
“You’re a failure.”
A cold voice echoed through the office.
“I’ve been looking out for you since you were born, and you’ve betrayed my expectations.”
A voice filled with both anger and disappointment hurled at the ten-year-old boy standing in the middle of the room.
“There are no results, not even a sign of awakening. Do you have any idea how I feel about having to keep such a useless good-for-nothing in this house?”
The desk was slammed with annoyance. The boy’s body trembles in response, as if he were frightened.
He knew that what was being done here, and what was to come, would not end with a mere scolding.
Still, the boy raises his voice, hoping for a ray of hope.
“Fa, father. I—“
” Silence! I don’t need to be called father by you anymore!”
However, such a fragile light of hope was quickly drowned out by the loud words.
“Hermes, as of today, you’re disowned! From now on, you are not allowed to use the name von Flembreed at all! Never cross the border of my house again!”
Hermes von Flembreed – no, the boy who has already become just Hermes.
This is the moment when his father, Zenos von Flembreed, expelled him from the Marquis of Flembreed, a prestigious family of magicians.
The magical nation of Eustia.
As the name suggests, this kingdom is characterized by the fact that magic is deeply rooted in the nation.
The royal princes and nobles of this country use the power of magic to protect their people from the invasion of other countries and the tyranny of demons that threaten their country, and in return they receive high privileges and status.
Such feudalism is the system that forms the foundation of this country.
Therefore, the royalty and aristocracy are all highly skilled in magic, and there are no exceptions.
Yes, there are no exceptions.
The reason for this is because anyone who does not have magical abilities is not a nobleman at that point.
One of the noble families of the magical nation of Eustia, the Marquesses of Frembreed, a prestigious magical family.
Hermes was born as the second son of that family.
“Oh, this child is a genius!”
He held Hermes in his arms and congratulated her on her birth, followed by a simple measurement of the child’s magical power. After finishing that, father Zenos’ words were full of joy that could be called madness.
“How clear and how enormous is the magic power! This child must be a child prodigy sent by the gods to save my family!”
…… As an aside.
The House of Frembreed is a royal family that traces its lineage back to the ancient times, which means that it qualifies as a duke, and was in fact called the Dukes of Frembreed until about a hundred years ago.
However, due to the failure to produce useful wizards in recent years and the poor management of the estate, the family was downgraded to a marquis. Depending on the situation in the future, the family may become a count’s family, which is what is called a failed family.
So it was no wonder that Hermes, born with enormous and high quality magic power, seemed like a savior to Zenos, the current head of the family.
“You guys, this child is the one who will save my clan. Take good care of him. Anyone who does anything to the detriment of this child will be beheaded immediately, treat him with that in mind!”
Xenos’ eyes glittered with ambition and lust as he gave arrogant instructions to the servants around him.
Thus, Hermes spent his childhood being overly spoiled, but contrary to the expectations of those around him, he never became a spoiled little boy.
It was probably a blessing that he was surrounded by conscientious servants. He may have been a little self-confident, but basically he grew up to be a straightforward and reasonable boy.
“Father, father! The teacher complimented me on today’s performance of the Marijuana Release Kunren! He said that this kind of output is the best in my age group!”
“Oh Hermes, that’s my son! Okay, I’ll give you a reward. Is there anything you want?”
“Then the magic book that is said to be hidden in the royal family!”
His relationship with his father was good, as long as he continued to produce results.
Hermes was happy about it – more than anything, he loved magic himself, so he worked hard on basic training in magic manipulation and release, and gradually made a name for himself as a prodigy.
“That’s great, Hermes. You will eventually become the best magician in our family. Oh… I can’t wait to see what kind of ‘bloodline magic’ you’ll have!”
Bloodline magic.
It is a symbol of what makes a nobleman a nobleman, and as the name suggests, it is magic that is passed down through the bloodline.
Its performance is, in a word, out of the ordinary.
When compared to other magic that can be used by anyone – so-called “common magic” – there is a performance difference as great as heaven and earth.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that a nobleman can remain a nobleman because he can inherit this kind of magic.
“Is it the same magic that I and my predecessors inherited, or is it a more powerful form of magic? No, no, my family is of royal blood. The magic of lost royal legends can manifest itself at ……!”
“I’m looking forward to it, Danna-sama”
“Yes, Hermes-sama is the one. I’m sure you’ll receive some wonderful magic!”
Zenos and the servants started to calculate the future, and they lifted him up with all their might.
Hermes himself innocently believed in the future his father was talking about.
I have a great talent for magic.
I’m sure that I will be able to manifest a very powerful bloodline magic.
I would be five to six years old when the bloodline magic would appear. For me, it would be next year or the year after.
No matter what kind of magic it is, in the future I will be able to control it at will and become a great wizard like the heroes of fairy tales who run on the battlefield and destroy evil.
I believed in such a future without any doubt whatsoever.
