“Revel in the torment, bind them.”
Inside the Forest of Bewitching Trees, where the morning fog had yet to completely dissipate and lead way into a proper morning, there was a clearing with a spring at its center.
There, a pack of approaching magical wolves drooled and drooped, ready to pounce on the girl before them. However, without once changing her expression, the strange girl extended her right hand forward and declared so.
Simultaneously, her rags fluttered in the wind, imbued with magic akin to my own. What was different, however, were the red markings etched all over her tan skin. They weren’t normal etchings, instead moving across her body as if alive with a united purpose.
In a blur of motion, the red markings in her body lunged forward at an unimaginable speed, moving like a living creature—like snakes, perhaps—slithering steadfastly through the grass.
All the wolves could do was howl another confused scream as they were bound, ensnared, and suspended one by one in the air.
“No doubt about it…! This is my first time witnessing it, but that’s a real Cursemaker!” I put my hand over my mouth.
Like my own Assassin class, hers was unique among all classes of the Dark attribute. However, hers was so exceptionally rare, it was often disregarded as a myth by some due to its scarcity.
While it was uncommon, its beastly characteristics still had earned it the most repulsion among the other already detested Dark attribute classes.
From my vantage point on the tree, I gazed down. Her ragged cloak flapped open, and her delicate body was almost fully exposed, having hardly any clothing to cover it. It had a reason, however.
Her class fought by manipulating the red markings etched all across the user’s body, which made it almost impossible for one to fight with ordinary clothes.
In this developed civilization, the implications of such a crude skill needed no further explanation. Not only that, but her distinct tan skin—similar to those of the “uncivilized race” from across the sea—was enough to breed contempt among others around.
…People like her would be treated like nothing more than a stray mutt or wild beast.
As I thought so, the wolves began withering and screaming while bound.
“Guh…!” She grimaced.
What was her plan? Sure, being able to bind ten-odd magical wolves at once is pretty impressive, but from my perspective, it seemed like she was almost reaching her limit.
She wouldn’t last long at that rate. What on earth would she do next…?!
“Bwahaha! Fire!” As if answering my inward question, a man’s boisterous voice echoed from a thicket nearby.
Then, from behind the Cursemaker girl, a barrage of magic and arrows rained down upon the immobilized wolves.
…But she wasn’t an exception to the volley. The girl was caught up in the attack along with the wolves as she stood in the front line.
