T/N: Trent will be changed to Treant. Thanks for commenting on that, pezantri!
“Bwahaha! Where did you come from, brat?! And what on earth are blabbering about? That over there is our hunting doggy, y’know?! You’re dressed like some sorta adventurer with your black clothes and all, and yet you don’t know the unspoken rule of not interfering with other parties’ businesses?!”
The morning sun basked the clearing trees as Buffon spoke his rubbish. He eyed us confusedly for a moment before interrupting Rokoko and me.
While he wailed at me, his legs remained planted and ready to run away from the Giant Treant that Rokoko still bound.
…You really are the worst, aren’t you? Never mind that, declaring war here might be the best course of action.
“Yes, I do know. Buffon, leader of the Fellowship of the Hunters.”
“Bwah?! Then hurry up and withdraw—”
Before he could even spit out another drop of sebum, I pointed my beloved blade directly at his neck.
“From now on, I am your whole party’s enemy. —Let’s go.”
“Bwah?!”
Concentrating the thin veil of magic that spread around me into my hands and feet, I inhaled and focused. Tracing the path in my mind once more, I swiftly charged into the bloody battlefield.
“Uoooooooh!” I hollered a war cry, running toward my first target, the Giant Treant.
As soon as it noticed my approach to its bound and unprotected body, the living tree hollered air through its crevices, desperate in running away. However, my blade inevitably clashed against its bark, and with one mere gash, it was left unmoving, albeit alive.
The smaller Treants around screeched in anguish as the biggest one was on the verge of death. Without letting them move a single leaf, however, I drew the shortest trajectory to each and slashed seven times. Then, I returned my blade to its sheath with a click. In tandem, all other Treants were hacked to chips and soot.
Done with the smaller Treants, I turned to Buffon and his party.
No matter how unforgivable their huddle of scum may be, I won’t take their lives—No, instead I’ll make them suffer limb by limb!
“Feel the suffering Rokoko endured all this time, f*ckers!” I pulled these words from my gut.
“Gah?!”
“Guh?!
“Gwah?!”
“Bugh?!”
“Bwah?!”
With a swift pass of my sheathed blade, I shattered the legs of the five Fellowship of the Hunter’s members who were attempting to escape. Then, I absorbed the magical energy from their destroyed limbs into the sheath.
Not satisfied, I had to add a finishing touch.
“Heave-ho!”
I removed the sheath from my sword and hurled it straight toward the Giant Treant. It flew almost in a straight line and, charged with the energy of the Fellowship’s broken legs, it pierced and lodged right into the center of the gigantic monster’s bark.
“Ugh!”
I concentrated all of my magic into my limbs and kicked the ground with a leap, arching directly toward the Treant.
Crack!
First, I pierced my lodged sheath, dispersing it into tiny pieces. With this, all the magical energy of those I cut down flowed into my sword.
There was a caveat. The more substantial magic became, the more delicate it was to handle.
Naturally, as someone who isn’t a skilled mage specialized in controlling magic, I couldn’t possibly manage to focus all of it into a single small point by myself.
Using that to my advantage, I took the explosive magic I’d just liberated and directed it to the tip of my blade, which was already inside the giant monster. Since I couldn’t control it, that huge amount of magic burst from within him all at once.
This was one of my trump cards, “Reiss Assassination Technique No. 2! Rise Chain Break!”
As soon as the magic burst from within the monster’s thick branches, it produced a roar-like howl that shook the very earth underneath.
Unable to withstand the explosion, the immense magical energy inside the creature burst a hole through its thick bark.
Continuing with my jump’s momentum, I saw a glowing green sphere drop right beside me as I tore through its wood.
Still mid-air, I managed to see its size was almost that of a closed fist. Indeed, that was the Giant Treant’s core. By shattering it or having the core detached from its body for a certain period of time, the Treant would be done for.
Perhaps in its final struggle, a multitude of branches extended from the hole opened in the creature’s trunk toward the falling core. However—
“No…! I won’t let you!”
Just before the branches could grab the orb, Rokoko used her red enchanted marks to ensnare it herself. And to prevent it from being rescued by the Treant, she enveloped it even further in her enchanted brands.
Because nothing could be done, the Giant Treant moved its branches desperately, like a fish out of water. Then, it came to a complete halt, and the creature was finally down for good.
