Chapter 7: Conclusion reached on the 300th
Translator: Soafp
“Gau!”
Bugbear yells out and approaches.
“[ Acceleration ]!”
I say, and activate the skill I have just acquired.
Immediately, I feel as if the flow of time has slowed down.
The movements of the Bugbear seem to be in slow motion.
Boom! and the fist of Bugbear swings right down.
I succeed in avoiding it.
Until now, I had been unable to even follow the movements of the bugbears with my eyes, but with this skill, I am sure I can avoid their attacks.
Then I succeed in dodging the onslaught of 10 bugbears.
I could avoid any attack by dancing like a butterfly.
Well, it doesn’t matter if I can keep avoiding them.
I was convinced after moving around the room in every direction, but I still couldn’t see an exit anywhere.
This room is completely sealed.
Perhaps, in order to get out of this room, I need to defeat all the bugbears.
If that is the case, there is no point in just continuing to avoid them.
So, it’s time to fight back.
“Gau!”
I step to the side to evade the attack from the Bugbear.
Then I punch the Bugbear in the face.
The punch lands well, and the bugbear stumbles backwards for a moment.
There was a thud, and then a sickening sound.
“Ah!”
The bone in my right arm seems to have been broken by the punch.
It seems that I cannot withstand the impact of the punch from the Acceleration.
And there is one more big weakness.
At the moment I attacked, there was a huge gap between myself and the target.
There was no way that the Bugbear would not have targeted that.
“Aggaatt!”
A different bugbear from the one I had hit came at me from the side.
I grunted and slammed into the wall.
I was dead.
“Damn!”
I spat out in frustration as I rewound time and came back to life.
I had made it all the way to the top, but if I died, I had to start all over again.
However, there was hope.
It was a big gain to know that with Acceleration, I would be able to avoid the attacks from the Bugbear.
I was worried about the attack aspect, but if I could continue to avoid it, there should be countless chances to attack.
Okay, I’ve decided on a plan.
Let’s choose [Accelerate] and get out of that room.
But first, I need to get to the room with the treasure chest.
“Gau!”
I was killed by the very beginning Bugbear.
After about the 225th attempt.
“Finally, I’m back in this place.”
Once again, I had reached the room with the treasure chest.
It’s hard to get to this room.
I must have died five times before I got back to this room. Well, I don’t have an exact count of the number of times I died, so there must be a discrepancy.
“Okay, then, [Accelerate].”
After opening the treasure chest, I chose “Acceleration” without hesitation from the list of skills displayed.
“”Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!””
The bugbears lets out a yell.
Let the battle begin.
“Damn! Why is this not working!”
I shouted in anger.
This was the 300th time I had tried.
Of that number, I had fought 16 times with “acceleration” selected.
On my 16th attempt, while surrounded by the Nugbear, I was yelling.
At first, I was optimistic that if I chose “Acceleration,” I would be able to escape from the room at some point.
However, the more I tried, the more I felt that it would be impossible.
“Haa…… haa…… haa…… haa….”
Unknowingly, I was breathing heavily.
The weakness of [Acceleration] is that it is very physically draining.
Only three minutes can be used for “acceleration” to the fullest.
In that three minutes, I had to defeat all ten of the ten bugbears.
And yet, I was unable to defeat even one of them.
There were several problems.
First, there was the fact that no matter how fast I moved with “Acceleration,” my attack power did not increase.
Even if my attack power was low, I thought that if I used my speed, I would be able to generate a certain amount of power, but my arm always broke.
It was impossible to attack again and again.
The next strategy I came up with was to target the weakest point without fail.
Thanks to the Acceleration, not only was I able to move faster, but I was also able to think and move quicker, so I was able to attack precisely where I wanted.
That is why, for instance, it was possible to aim for the eyes and attack them.
Bugbear whose eyes had been crushed, screamed and writhed in agony on the spot.
But that’s all there was to it.
It did not go blind, but attacked again, enduring the pain.
Attacking the eye was far from fatal.
I also tried other practices, such as turning around and choking it, but even if the choking had worked in the first place, I would have been killed by another bugbear while I was choking it.
Nevertheless, I tried again and again to find a way.
Many times over and over again.
Looking back, I guess I was afraid to admit it.
I didn’t want to admit the reality that even though I had the highest rank of S skill, I had no response at all.
I wondered if it was possible for me to escape from this dungeon if I could not conquer it even with S-rank skills in my hands.
Perhaps that is why I continued to choose “Acceleration” even though I had little success in the latter half of the dungeon.
I kept searching for a way out, thinking there must be a way in.
But I guess I had to give up.
Even if I chose “Acceleration,” I would not be able to defeat the Bugbear.
That was the conclusion I reached after 300 attempts.
I have to start all over again.
