I just received an invitation from Usami to go on a date, and I was riding the bus to the meeting place. Every second that passed, I felt my body gradually tense up.
Calm down, Haruki! Calm down!
I patted my chest and took several deep breaths. I tried to relax, but the tension in my body is still there. In fact, the more I try to calm myself down, the more I become aware of what is about to happen, and the harder my body becomes.
“Shinhama station~, Shinhama station~, Shinhama station~”
As I tried to calm my nerves, the bus finally arrived at the front of the station where we’d meet. I prepped myself up and stepped off the bus. After that, I looked around for Usami, but couldn’t catch even a glimpse of her with my eyes.
Relieved that she wasn’t already there, I check my clothes and hair for anything out of place. When I finished checking myself, I looked down at my watch. It read 11:40 AM.
Usami still wasn’t here… Actually, I’m glad she can’t see me in such a nervous state. I don’t know what I would do if she saw me so anxious.
As I wait nervously for her, fifteen minutes pass. Before I knew it, a voice I’d heard countless times over the last few days reached my ears.
“Haru-kun~!”
She approached me with a trot, waving her arms in my direction. Every single person who passed by her looked back, perhaps because of her good looks. They all looked twice.
“Haru! Sorry, did you wait long?”
“No, I just got here.”
She was dressed in a boyish outfit, donning pants and a cap, maybe for ease of movement. The gap between her usual cuteness and her current tomboyish outfit made my heart skip a beat.
Even when not considering any sort of feelings, Usami shone more than any other girl I’ve ever seen. I could feel my cheeks heat up at this cute sight in front of me.
“Fufu~ Shall we go then, Haru?”
With these words, she held out her hand to me. A sight that reminded me of the first time I went into her house, and the words she told me, “Shall we go then?”
With that same hand, with these same words, she gently invited me to her house. Her kindness touched my broken heart, and it’s slowly recovering, bit by bit.
Thinking back, all I wanted to do was to off myself, but now I was no longer thinking such heavy thoughts. Instead, that yearning to give up was replaced by a desire to be with Usami, to live with her.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
I took her hand, thanking her within my heart. As our fingers intertwined, she smiled tenderly and lead the way.
“Let’s have lunch first!”
“Mhm, let’s.”
With her suggestion, we walked out of the fountain plaza.
Nijo’s POV
“My lady, alpha and delta are in place.”
“Thanks for your hard work. Start supporting my date with Haru.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I was hiding on top of a building and received an order to instruct Pleiades, a team formed to support Shuu Haruki’s love endeavor with the lady.
“Alpha and Beta will continue to watch over both of them, while Gamma and Delta will eliminate anyone in their way.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
Upon receiving my instructions, Pleiades moved in unison. I went to a position where I could look over the two of them and thought of ways to move even further. Below me, I could see two boys, and a couple of girls walking and chatting with each other.
It seems to be going well for now… There seems to be no tension rising, nor any lurkers.
I nodded my head in satisfaction upon seeing that the young lady, previously a flustered mess just before the date, proceeded smoothly.
For me, Kyou Usami was also a benefactor. Having graduated from a prestigious maid academy in England in just one year, I was considered part of the elite.
However, when I tried to apply for a job as a maid, countless houses rejected me. When I asked them why they did so, they just kept it vague, never giving me a clear reason why.
I later learned that the reason people shunned me wasn’t a coincidence. It happened because of a graduate in the same academy I went to.
Apparently, the daughter of a prominent family, who had entered the maid school as a result of numerous problematic behaviors, and was even thrown out by her parents, looked at me one-sidedly as an enemy.
She repeatedly professed her hatred for me graduating after only one year, while she had struggled for three whole years to finally graduate.
Moreover, I heard that she used her family’s power to spread bad news about me to all the famous and wealthy families, and even to the royal family who controlled a country and pressured me not to work as a maid.
But despite all that, the young lady hired me. She didn’t care about any of the dirt my name had, and she just looked at me as a person, hiring me to work for her family.
That’s why I give it my all. I fulfill her wishes and try to make her happy, and that’s my purpose today.
While old memories resurface, I receive a command from her once again.
“I’ll have lunch with him now. In the meantime, I want you to clear the perimeter.”
“Understood.”
I relay her orders to Pleiades.
