Today is a study session hosted by Saijo. After all this time, I don’t know about the participating members or where it will be held. Well, I guess it doesn’t matter where we go if we just want to study. With that in mind, I headed for the meeting place.
“Good morning, Renya. You’ve come straightforwardly this time.”
“I didn’t want you to call me again and again like before.”
“Good morning, Renya.”
“Good morning, Fujibayashi.”
While greeting them, I looked around at the people who had gathered. There are three men and three women. That’s the kind of people I usually talk to in class. I thought that when the gossip spread, the number of people who would talk to me would decrease, but that wasn’t the case. In particular, Saijo, Kinoshita, and other yang people often talk to me.
“Is this all of them? Where are we going?”
“At my house. My living room is huge.”
After the ball game, Sasaki and I started talking occasionally. Although I thought he wouldn’t have good feelings toward me because I took Sasaki’s place in the team and won the game, he rather thanked me.
“It was too bad that I couldn’t win the match by myself, but I couldn’t stand to lose to those guys.”
“Is that how it is?”
“If I hadn’t gotten injured, I probably wouldn’t have won.”
Sasaki smiled, and for some reason there was a sense of resignation in his eyes.
“Now don’t just stand there forever, let’s go to my house.”
I don’t know why he was looking at me like that, but I didn’t ask him why as he took his gaze off me and urged everyone on.
We arrived at Sasaki’s house and were ushered into the living room, where we each sat down in our preferred positions.
“So let’s get to studying!”
Following Saijo’s voice, each of us took out our study materials. I also took out my study materials and put my earphones in my ears. I’ll start with math, my weakest subject today.
” Why are you wearing earphones?”
As I was selecting a song, Saijo noticed and took my earphones. What are you doing?
“What are you doing! What are you trying to study while wearing earphones!”
“No, the noise that other people make bothers me, you know?”
I’m not bothered by music, but I am bothered by random noises other people make. I wonder why?
“Then what’s the point of having a study group? There’s no need to get together if you’re just studying by yourself, not asking questions about what you don’t understand.”
“If you say it like that, you’re right, but…”
I wasn’t going to participate in the first place. Well, let’s just do what the organizer says. Since we’re here, why don’t I ask them what I don’t understand?
“The formula here…”
“What the author wants to say most is…”
“This example sentence is…”
The study session turned out to be more serious than I had expected. If a subject is weak, ask those who are good at it, and conversely, teach those who are good at it to those who are bad at it. If neither of these is the case, we study in silence. I’m having a proper study session….
That’s how I studied diligently in the morning and even after lunch, but as time went by, the concentration started to fade.
“Hey, we’ve studied a lot, why don’t we have some fun?”
“I’m tired of studying too. I want to play.”
Saijo, who was bored with studying, made a suggestion and Kinoshita agreed. I’ve made more progress in my studies than I thought I would, but we’re going to play after all.
The others were laughing, but they didn’t seem to have any intention of stopping.
“Let’s play a game together.”
“Yeah, Kinoshita. What do you want to do?”
Kinoshita and Saijo rifled through the games. That’s it for today’s study.
“Hahah, I’m going to prepare some tea then. Tsukiyomi, I’m sorry, but can you help me?”
I’ve been asked by Sasaki to help him, so I left the room while Saijo and the others were excited about what game to play.
“I’m sorry for asking for your help.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s not much of a hassle, since you’ve given us the place.”
As I was putting the tea on the tray, I noticed Sasaki with the sweets looking at me as if he wanted to say something.
When I asked him, Sasaki hesitated a little, but still made eye contact with me and opened his mouth.
“Why don’t you play soccer anymore, Tsukiyomi-kun?”
Sasaki’s eyes seemed to be jumbled with various emotions such as resignation, disappointment, jealousy and anger.
