Chapter 8: Visiting the ill person

TL: I might drop this because I don’t enjoy the story anymore. Will TL till chapter 16.
“…………”
What in the world am I doing?
I am currently in Asuka’s room.
I was sitting on my knees with my back straight.
This is not the first time I’ve been in Asuka’s room. Although it was a familiar place, I felt more nervous than ever before.
I was even more nervous than I had been when I first came to Asuka’s room.
Not that I doubted it, but Asuka was in bed with a fever.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Asuka was asleep when I arrived, so I tried not to disturb her sleep.
(“Really, what am I doing? I should have just given her a get-well present and left quickly. …… But Asuka’s mother told me to take it easy, and I couldn’t turn back ……”).
I couldn’t help making excuses to myself.
I should go home now, after all….
Yes, let’s do that.
I made up my mind and stood up.
“Hi-Hiroto……⁉︎ W-Why are you in my room?”
Asuka woke up at the precise moment that I had planned.
It was the reverse pattern of the other day. At that time, I was shocked to see Asuka in my room.
“Ah, no, I’m, uhm, I-I’m sorry! I will go home now!”
“W-Wait! Hiroto.”
As I was about to pack up and leave the room, Asuka immediately stopped me.
“….D-Did you come to visit me by any chance?”
“N-no, it’s not like that. I-I just happened to pass by Asuka’s house, and your mother found me, and I just went along with it.”
“I see…. I-I’m sorry. I haven’t told my mom that I broke up with Hiroto yet, and I’ll make sure to tell her later.”
“……Yeah.”
Asuka puts a shadow on her face and gives a small bow.
The cold combined with the fever seemed to be fainter than ever.
“Is your fever alright?
Yes. I slept and I feel much better.”
“I see.”
“U-uhm, I’m sorry I did so many terrible things to Hiroto. I’ll make sure I don’t show up in front of you anymore. That’s all I can do for you. …… G-goodbye”
Asuka tells me in a weak voice.
My chest tightens up.
This is exactly what I was hoping for.
If I leave this room, Asuka will never come near me again.
We can part ways without a hitch.
But my feet refuse to leave this room. I really am lost in my emotions these days.
“Here, in case you’re feeling up to it. If you have the energy to eat and drink, that is.”
I was filled with nervousness, but I summoned up all my courage to speak up. I took out a convenience store bag from my bag and held it out to Asuka.
Asuka took the bag with trepidation, checked the contents,
“……. Did you buy it for me?”
“N-no. It was a coincidence. I bought it for myself.”
“…..Then I can’t accept it. Hiroto should eat it.”
“I don’t care. Just take it.”
“I don’t like it. I’m not so greedy that I eat other people’s food.”
“You know, sick people don’t need to worry about what other people eat.”
“I don’t care. It’s Hiroto’s.”
“….. Alright. I will take it home”
As I took the bag and was about to leave again, Asuka grabbed me by the sleeve of my uniform.
“D-don’t. I want it. ……”
“W-W-What’s the matter with you? Don’t change your mind so much.”
“Because Hiroto is lying…….”
“I’m not lying.”
“You bought that for me, didn’t you ……?”
“No, it was just a coincidence.”
“There are all the ones I like. In addition, Hiroto, you do not like chocolate, right?
I quickly averted my gaze to the other side.
I was careless to bring sweets with a lot of chocolate.
There was no way I could get away with it.
I hand the bag from the convenience store to Asuka again.
“Thanks, Hiroto.”
“You’re welcome…….”
Asuka smiled happily and expressed her gratitude.
I was feeling a bit uncomfortable.
“I’m going to go home now.”
“…….Ah yes. ….Understood”
I don’t stay for a long time to visit someone.
I gave her exactly what I wanted to give her, and it would be a good time to leave.
But when I put my hand on the doorknob, I stopped moving again. …… I can’t just leave like this. I haven’t said what I want to say yet.
I guess I should really look her in the eye and talk to her, but that seems a bit of a hurdle.
I kept my back to Asuka.
“I didn’t say don’t get involved with me for the rest of your life,”
” …………”
“We just broke up. I mean, we’re back to where we were before we started going out. I don’t want you to misunderstand me there. …… Uhm …… that’s all. I hope you get over your cold soon.”
After saying this in a mumbled voice, I opened the door.
I wonder if I’ve caught a fever too. My face is hot. I need to get out of this room as soon as possible.
“…Thank you”
As I was leaving, Asuka’s trembling voice snatched my ear.
I don’t know what kind of expression she had on her face because I didn’t see it. There is no reason for her to be thanking me…….
I left Asuka’s room with a slightly lighter step.

July 5, 2022 at 1:33 am………………………..THOSE TWO WILL END UP TOGETHER AGAIN, AREN’T THEY?……………..*SIGH* x (some colossal number)………………………….
…………Well, we can say that both of them becoming friends again isn’t out of the question, and since she looks like she finally is reflecting on herself(for real this time)…….i guess………the chance for both of them to be reunited again….isn’t low……………………….BUT………I’LL BE TRULY DISAPPOINTED IF THAT HAPPENS…….Once again, the MC doesn’t stay firm, yeah, there is no need to kick her out of his life but becoming lovers again after the shitshow she make him go through and being pressured by those around him(let’s be honest, the sister really was pressuring him although skillfully….well, the MC was too much of a pushover) is really sickenning.
Can’t they left him to his own devices for some time and then, exactly at the moment where he is actually feeling bad for having broke up with his childhood friend….though she deserves it, suggest to start considering to give her another chance?
There is this novel where the girlfriend is such a b***h, at the point where the MC gets hospitalized(stomach ulcer). Only when he realize being with her was hacking at his health he broke up with her. After that he changed himself, she didn’t allowed him to cut his bangs nor get close to other girls and insulted him daily(she even grabbed a medal he won and throw it away because he got better than her……) meet a girl much better than the b***h he was dating, the usual pattern, make friends and fend off his previous girlfriend(b***h) meaningless but annoying attempts to get together again(just remembering that makes wonder what was going through that idiot’s head). Well, he stood firm and he had his new girlfriend and classmates help so he could deal with whatever she had thrown at him. After a final confrontation he finally told her off, actually he told her off before but she didn’t got it, and she finally understood she was a real b***h….yeah, it was a good read, well, the end was rushed up a bit(the very author admitted as well) a good read nontheless.
I guess, asking for novels like this is actually simply too much……………….

July 26, 2022 at 5:27 amWhy are the comments always idiots who think loving somebody is being a simp? Complete loser behavior and hard projection. They clearly like each other.

July 6, 2022 at 2:01 pmShe isn’t actually all that bad, though. Early on, he only expressed his discontentment with her, about all her threatening him to establish her control over him, so we get a skewed perception of her being a horrible little s**t. But later on you see him reminiscing about her actually being a great girlfriend outside that aspect. Him breaking up with her was on a moment of rage without him really giving it much thought. With all that rage, he also makes himself not see her as a love interest anymore. This goes on until she stops pestering him to get back with her (the pestering fueled his rage but after that, he doesn’t have anything much to resent her for). Also, this is much better than in most breakup stories where the girl deluded herself to keep thinking he’s misunderstanding his own feelings (though it’s kinda true in this case, lmao). Also, he didn’t even confront her about the threatening until he got to his “breaking point”. Bad communication on his part, imo.
Oh, and she also ditches him on that date to catch up on sleep after making him cross out his own plans, which is kinda incongruous to how the MC describes her later on. Is this an error by the author or is she actually a horrible person who the MC now has a positive lens on for some inane reason, after the breakup?

July 6, 2022 at 2:05 pmThe ex in his one is just straight up better though. She doesn’t actually cause much trouble for the MC post breakup, was a control freak but not to the same severity, and is later described as a wonderful girlfriend in other aspects. That girl meanwhile just completely turned cold and constantly abused him verbally, spread bad rumours about him, etc. They’re just not on the same scale, to be rejected the same way.

April 30, 2023 at 6:22 amAfter reading the comments, it feels like a 15/16 year old student has more maturity than some adults here.
It’s just a young teenager who came to the conclusion that shutting off communication by cutting people off your lives might not be the right answer. The world is not black and white, people are not good or evil.
The way MC cutt off Asuka from his life so suddenly also meant that MC has never mentioned to Asuka that he doesn’t like being threatened with “break up” everytime they go out. Relationship is 2 way road. If one can’t mention to his parter what he likes or dislikes, is it truly a relationship? And MC has continued this way for 2 years. If you can’t change yourself, how can you expect others to change for you ?
