Chapter 6 | The Timid Student Council President
Chapter 6 | The Timid Student Council President
“…hmmm… that was tough… hmm?”
I arrived at school and sat down in my seat.
I found a white envelope tucked in my desk drawer. Could it be a letter of challenge? Let’s just check inside.
When I opened the envelope, I found an A4-size sheet of paper with the following written on it.
“I will wait for you in the student council room. Come to me at lunchtime.”
It was written in black ink in big letters on… Is it really a letter of challenge?
“Scary! It’s really a letter of challenge.”
Before I knew it, Usui stood behind me and peeked at me.
No way I was thinking the same thing as Usui… I’m shocked.
“Don’t peek at me without permission. Besides, this letter of challenge is annoying.”
“I already said it before, right? You look down on me too much, don’t you?”
“…Oh, Airi’s back.”
“Then, later.”
“That’s why they look down on you, okay?”
When I told him that Airi had returned from the next class, Usui ran away as if it was a matter of course. I mocked him inwardly and put the “letter of challenge” deep in the back of my desk.
“Yuu-chan. Ishida-kun has a club meeting during lunch break today. Would you like to talk with me?
She’s been grumpy for a long time, and now she’s back to her habits. Maybe it’s her chemistry with Youka is just too bad, but I think she’s a little emotionally strange… is this childhood friend… okay?
I mean, why do I have to take Ishida’s place, I don’t like it in general.
“I’ve been called to the student council office, so I’ll pass.”
“I see, eh? Student council?”
The student council is not such a surprising thing.
It’s just a group of bored people elected by us kids. I wonder how they do it when they don’t make any money.
Oh, I see, they’re doing it to improve their internal score.
“The Student Council President, she’s a celebrity, so don’t be rude to her, okay?”
“A celebrity?”
“No, she’s famous in the school. They think she’s cute.”
“…Oh.”
I didn’t know she was famous in that way.
I don’t want to get involved in any trouble, so maybe I should cut ties with the student council president.
The tedious time of classes passed by without a hitch, and before I knew it, it was lunchtime. I decided to take my lunch to the student council office.
I didn’t eat in the classroom because… it would be awkward to eat with Airi.
When I got up from my seat, Airi called out to me. I looked at her and saw that she was looking at me sadly.
“Aren’t you going to eat with me?”
“Yeah. She said we’d eat in the student council office and talk.”
Of course, that’s a lie. It’s awkward to eat with you.
“I see… I ate with Ishida-kun yesterday, so I thought we’d eat together today, but it’s lonely.”
“Well, I guess so.”
I want to clearly say, “From now on, don’t worry about it and just eat with Ishida.” but I have a close relationship with Airi. I don’t want to make a scene by saying harsh words.
“I’m off.”
“…Ah.”
With Airi still sending me glances, I started to walk to the student council room.
“─I didn’t get to say goodbye.”
Airi is also aware that something is obviously wrong with Yuuji. But she, like Yuuji, doesn’t say it directly.
But the reason why she doesn’t say it is completely different from Yuuji’s.
In Airi’s case, she can’t tell Yuuji because she feels that if she does, he will leave her.
And this idea is right on the money.
What holds Yuuji together is the distance that Yuuji himself established when Airi made a girlfriend. If Airi tries to shorten that distance forcefully, Yuuji will leave her altogether.
So, if the exchange like this morning continues, their current relationship will not last very long.
“One of these days we’ll be able to talk again like we did the day before yesterday, right? I don’t even approve of his relationship with that lighthearted girl… and I can’t allow him to have a relationship with her. So I have to warn Yuu-chan to break up with her when he’s in a better mood.”
Airi ate her lunch while muttering.
———
I arrived in front of the student council room and opened the door with great energy.
“Excuse me for disturbing you!”
“Bwah! You’re early! You should have eaten first.”
“I guess so.”
“Yeah…”
The student council president was probably chewing her meal when I opened the door, and she was holding her mouth to prevent it from spewing out.
Shiina Takamiya, the student council president. She’s a third-year student, one year older than me.
She is not as small as Youka… but she is petite and has long hair. When Airi mentioned that she was famous for her cuteness, she was probably referring to her animal-like cuteness.
The most distinctive thing about the student council president, from my point of view, is that she is so timid and shy that I don’t think she is capable of being the student council president. I sometimes see her speaking at school assemblies, but her face is always pale while she is speaking.
It’s hard to notice because she’s naturally pale, but people like me who interact with her regularly can see it. It’s very unbearable to watch, so please don’t do it.
“─Sakamoto-san, please have a cup of tea.”
“Oh, thank you. Thank you, Yashiro-san.”
Before I knew it, Yashiro-san had prepared the tea. I am sorry for making you feel uncomfortable.
Yashiro-san is the secretary of the student council.
She is a first-year student, so she is younger than me, but she is a firm person, so I tend to speak to her in honorifics. She is much more like a student council president than the president. I know her because I am frequently called upon to meet her, and she is a serious and thoughtful woman.
The student council president, for some reason, didn’t like the fact that I thanked her, and she stared at me with puffed-out cheeks.
“You acted somewhat differently than you did with me. Why are you so nice to Yashiro-chan? I’m not sure why.”
“Well, in short, it’s discrimination.”
“Oh, my God! You’re torturing me with my siblings! It’s too much~……”
“Speaking of which, Yashiro-san, what happened to the other student council members?”
“Ah, I remember the first time I called you out at lunchtime. We just use the student council room for lunch breaks, so it’s basically just the two of us.”
“Why are you ignoring me~!”
“((What a pain in the a*s, this chairman))”
I thought about ignoring her, but I felt sorry for her and wanted to ask her why she had called me.
So, I asked the pouting girl what she wanted to talk to her about.
“Speaking of which, student council president, why did you call me up?”
“What? Why don’t we wait until after we finish eating? Isn’t it bad manners to talk while eating?”
“…indeed.”
It’s a good argument, but it kind of pisses me off.
I guess we’ll just have to wait until we’re both done eating. I’m not sure why I didn’t just eat my lunch in the classroom.
“Even so, I’m going to eat with kouhai-kun~… Nihehe~…Hm? Is it a convenience store bento?”
“Convenience store lunches are delicious, aren’t they?”
“I see… your mother is busy.”
“No, my mother is not at home.”
“Ah, I see.”
Oh, I’m sorry.
“No, it’s okay. I’m sorry.”
“I’m really sorry.”
He said that his tone had unconsciously turned cold when the topic of his mother, whom he hated, was suddenly brought up. Yashiro-san also looked surprised. I’ve done a bad thing to the two of them.
But talking about mother – that’s even more taboo than Airi. But now that the atmosphere has turned sour because of me, we need to turn the conversation into something more positive… Let’s talk about your failures!
“Speaking of which, the other day, my sister…”
“Hi! I’m sorry, Sakamoto-chan!”
“What? Is my sister traumatized?”
I was just talking about it, but to be so frightened… I’ve done something worse. What did you do, big sister?
…
No, the response was good, and a little more.
“Hey, that’s my sister behind the student council president!”
“Whee!”
“I’m kidding.”
“Mwah…!”
All right! Let’s call this even for mentioning the subject of mother. Besides, she’s got tears in her eyes and she’s going to cry if I try any more.
“Ah! Takamiya-senpai! That’s Sakamoto-senpai’s sister walking down the hallway right now!”
“Heeeeeeeee~!”
“…Yashiro-san?”
“I’m sorry. Takamiya-senpai’s reaction was so interesting that I ended up.”
“You have to be careful not to overdo it.
I can understand why you would want to tease her.
But Yashiro-san is surprisingly mischievous.
“What? You’re paying attention to Yashiro-chan, but you’re just as guilty as her, right?”
“I’m sorry, my beautiful student council president.”
“What? ─If you insist that much, I’ll give you special forgiveness…? Dehehe.”
That was easy… She’s older than me, but I’m worried a bad guy might deceive her.
─Where did all the talk about manners go?… In the end, all three of them ended up having lunch while talking happily.
The three of them then finished eating, at which point Yuuji decided to confirm the reason for calling him again.
“So what is it? What is your business after all?”
“What? I just wanted to talk to you during lunch break, that’s all.”
“No, that’s okay, just tell me what you wanted to talk to me about.”
“There’s a new doughnut store in front of the station. I ate too many doughnuts… don’t you think I’ve gained a little weight?”
“No, not at all…”
Hmm?
“Huh? Did you really call me up just to chat?”
“Yeah!!!”
“Wow, you have a radiant smile.”
“Yes! Kouhai-kun! Yashiro-chan! Let’s play cards together!”
“Playing cards……?”
“I am here to inform the teachers that the student council president has brought playing cards to school.”
“Oh, no! Wait, wait, wait, wait! That’s a lie! There is no such thing! Don’t tell them! I’ll get very angry!”
I didn’t think the reason I was called out was to chat. ……
I thought it was a joke, but apparently, it was true and they made me talk to them until the end of lunch break.
I don’t know the point anymore.
~Student Council President’s Perspective~.
─ ─ I was worried when I heard about you from Sakamoto-chan, but I’m glad to hear that you seem to be okay.
But still… you’ve got a kind sister who loves her little brother, kouhai-kun.
I’m so embarrassed to go myself, so I asked that prideful Sakamoto-chan to go and check on him.
Of course, I want to help you when you’re having a hard time because you’re always bothering me.
So please rely on your older sisters from time to time, okay?
I, Sakamoto-chan, and Yashiro-chan, even though she is younger than me, are on your side!
TLN: Sorry for not uploading for 3 weeks. I was busy with final exams and projects for the entirety of it that I just lost the motivation and time to TL anything. I’m on my last 2 projects now so I can finally spare time to TL more, and after December 21st I should be able to upload daily again.

January 26, 2023 at 8:09 amI’m late but thanks for the chapter. When Buchou told MC he should have eaten first I would have said I have Musophobia and there was a rat in the classroom.
