Chapter 17 | Sister’s Melancholy ~Yuka’s Point of View~
[Yuka’s Point of View]
It was the opening ceremony of the third year of high school.
New classmates, an unfamiliar classroom, everyone is bewildered by the freshness of it all, and Yuka notices something strange.
(What a boring thing to do, really…)
It was taking place in one corner of the classroom.
Three girls were surrounding one girl and laughing at her. Yuka turned her face down on her desk to watch the exchange. Peeping is her specialty.
“You’re still as small as ever, this isn’t junior high school, you know?”
“Did you hear? She’s running for student council president! That’s really funny!”
“No way! Ha-ha-ha-ha.”
“………”
The girl, whose quite modest stature, was silently enduring.
However, it didn’t look like she was okay with being told that. The girl was holding still with a bloodthirsty face…at least that’s what it looked like to Yuka.
“Hmmm…well, let’s make her cry once…”
Yuka stood up and approached the girls.
“What are you doing to my friend?”
Of course, Yuka did not know her.
That’s just a figure of speech.
“Huh? Friends?
The first to turn to Yuka was the sarcastic girl. Their eyes met, and Yuka winked at her to reassure her… Next, the three guys with bad personalities turned to Yuka.
“Huh? What? You look cool and you’re friends with her? You don’t have any sense of style.”
“Get out of here, or I’m gonna have to give you a lesson!”
“That’s right──?”
They provoke Yuka.
One of them stared at Yuka at close range, and the other raised her voice as if she was intimidating her.
However, the attitude of the remaining one was different from the other two. She seemed to recognize Yuka, and her face changed color as she looked at her.
“Oh? That’s good, that’s good. There are still guys with a backbone in this school. Okay, I’ll play with you… come on.”
“Oh, yeah! This is good!”
“Get her!”
“Wait a minute!!!!!”
“”!?”
The hand that was about to hit Yuka stopped.
Just in the nick of time… she almost sent her to the hospital… the person who tried to hit her…
“What? Why are you stopping me? Are you scared?”
“Of course I’m scared! Can’t you tell by looking at her face? This is Yuka the Undefeated of the West!”
“What? That legendary figure?”
“What legend?”
“Ah! She destroyed a group all by herself…!
“Ah… Now that I think about it, did that happen? If I remember correctly, they went to kill Buchi because they cut her younger brother.”
“She’s definitely the real deal! That brazen brazenness is the real Yuka…!”
“What? Wait a minute, I’m famous for being a brocon? I never heard of that!”
“”We’re sorry…””
At Yuka’s yell, the three of them broke down crying.
They then put their hands together as if in prayer and beg Yuka for their lives.
“I will never disobey you again…so please forgive me…!”
“…Damn it.”
Yuka, who had her fangs pulled out, looked down at the three of them in a listless manner. The three of them were on their knees, pleading desperately, but Yuka had no intention of forgiving them.
“You apologized to the wrong person, didn’t you?”
“What?”
“That’s…”
“…ah!”
All three turned to the girl at once.
The girl, not quite following the strange turn of events, shrinks under the bully’s gaze.
The next moment, however, she sees an unexpected action.
“”I’m really sorry for everything I’ve done.””
They bowed their heads vigorously while still in a kneeling posture.
The girl stopped thinking when she saw this, but immediately came back to herself and responded to the three apologies.
“Uh… uh, uh… um… okay.”
“If you have learned your lesson, don’t ever bully her again, okay?”
“”Yes! I’m sorry!””
“Okay, then go!”
The three of them left the place without saying a word as if they were running away. Although they were about to go to class…
Since that day, these three girls had not bullied the girl, but before Yuka had noticed she had been living a very difficult school life.
The three girls were now gone, and Yuka looked at the girl who was trembling with a blue face.
“I hear you’re going to be student council president?”
“Huh? That’s right! There’s no way I can be the student council president…! After all…”
“Hmm? Why? You’re super cool.”
“I’m cool…? I’m…?”
“Yeah. Well, do your best. I’ll be rooting for you.”
After saying this, Yuka was about to leave the place.
However, the girl hurriedly stops Yuka.
“Ah, um, na, name!”
“Hm? Come to think of it, is this the first time we’re in the same class?”
The girl nodded her head.
“I am Yuka Sakamoto. Well, I may look like this, but I don’t lay a hand on other people and my brother. Remember me if you feel like it?”
“You’re so cool…”
“I’m not happy about being called cool, and I’m still a girl. I’m the one who said it first… but what’s your name? I’ll find out when we introduce ourselves anyway, but why don’t you tell me your name anyway?”
“Ah, yes… my name is Shiina Takamiya! Nice to meet you…!”
“No honorifics…”
This was the first meeting between Yuka and Takamiya.
Another day, more than a month later, they were having lunch together on the rooftop.
By this time, they had become comfortable with each other, and Takamiya no longer spoke to Yuka using honorifics.
“And my brother said, “Yankees are cool”… So I worked hard to become a delinquent, and now he’s scared of me, the ultimate Yankee. Isn’t that really terrible? I’ve never been violent with Yuuji, but he’s so wary of me…isn’t it really terrible? It made me cry…”
“Well, well.”
Takamiya gently holds out a handkerchief.
However, Yuka refuses to accept it. Because it is a hassle to wash it and return it.
“Yes. But Kouhai-kun was really cool, wasn’t he? Besides, he and I get excited talking about Sakamoto-chan, so it’s fun to talk to him.”
“………”
“But you know what? Sakamoto-chan, you always do nothing but bad things, so you can’t help complaining…maybe you just think you don’t get along!”
“………”
“What’s wrong, Sakamoto-chan? Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?”
“…you are not allowed to see my brother behind my back.”
“What? Why?”
“Because you seem to be having so much fun, it kind of pisses me off. I haven’t been able to talk to him lately.:
“I don’t want to.”
“No, no, no, no, no. Student council president, I’m going to tell the teacher you’re bringing cards and board games to school.”
“Uu~…okay~…”
(Well, as long as I meet him without Sakamoto-chan finding out, there won’t be a problem, will there?)
—If you ask Yuka who her best friend is, she will shyly say Takamiya’s name.
If you ask Takamiya the same question, she will say Yuka without hesitation.
The student council president and the school’s heretic.
The bond between the two of them is tightly bound by a thick thread.
